OURBIRTHDAY will eventually be a seven member group under JYP subsidiary INNIT Entertainment, but they’re rolling out their members in waves. The first three (Hyejin, Achiraya and Baby — yes, you read that last one right) have made their debut today with pre-release single Hungry (Side A). If this were truly my birthday, I’d be finding a way to sneakily return this particular gift.
Hungry is the latest in a seemingly endless line of songs I like to call “annoying catchphrases.” This approach has become a bad cliche in 2026 K-pop, yet continues unabated. Rather than attempt to write a chorus involving any type of singing, the composers have settled for a silly catchphrase (“Hungry! Eat it up!“) performed in a bratty — almost intentionally obnoxious — style.
What makes this especially frustrating is that there are things to love about Hungry. I enjoy the house beat — as overused as they have become this year. The track’s more melodic moments also work well and even the hyper-affected “rapping” keeps momentum chugging along. But eventually, we wind up in a climactic hellscape of “whipped whipped whipped cream, whipped cream big dream” that puts me in a decidedly un-festive mood. At a certain point, it’s hard not to feel a bit insulted by material like this. It sounds like it was designed for five year olds.

That’s simply Le Sserafim leftovers, sounds like a bad combo of Crazy and Spaghetti. I don’t totally hate it but it’s so unoriginal, not what you want from a first release.

Holy shit, this all began in 2023 with cool songs that had huge production value and novelty. Can’t believe there are companies still stretching this trend three years into its initial popularity. Also, what’s with debuting 3 members first?

It’s uncommon but not an unheard of way of debuting a group. Started out with LOONA’s legendary rollout years ago, then continued with groups like tripleS and idntt

This song is just a badly executed SPAGHETTI and without J-HOPE kickass rap parts so it became tasteless….

So I finished the song and I’m still hungry 😃
Hungry for an actual topline but other than that, this is fine

I really hope side B or whatever song the other half of the group debuts with will be a LOOOOT better than whatever this is. This honestly feels like an ITZY song that was left in their vault for ages until they buried it out and decided to give it to OBD (OurBirthday)

I thought the song was fine and cute until the whipped cream part. It’s like they ran out of ideas or something.

the pre-chorus is the best part, everything else i could do without. agree with chategory that this feels like an itzy reject.
also, what was with that “whipped cream” bit at the end? it did literally nothing for the song!
