I haven’t written a review for a Jeung Eunji song in six years, which is kind of crazy when you think about all that’s happened since then. She hasn’t released much music in the 2020s, but the summer theme of her new mini album caught my eye. I’m hanging on to the last remnants of summer with all I have, and appreciate a soundtrack for my efforts.
When I think of Eunji, I instantly hear her warm, powerful voice but I’m also reminded of the subdued coffeehouse fare she usually releases. With that in mind, the bombast of i love LOVE (파도) is unexpected and refreshing. She’s gone full-on rock this time, throwing in electric guitar and big, bounding percussion for a dramatic arrangement. The result still sounds more like an OST than something I’d listen to regularly, but it’s nice to hear a track this effusive in a place you don’t expect it.

What stands out to me is the vocal. It’s very 2nd gen – IU style kpop vocal. A big high belt with a tight squeeze on the throat so it sounds like a cheerleader about to pop.
As for the song, big and bold and bright.

Eunji is my favourite soloist aside from IU & Taeyeon, so I am really happy to get a new summer album from her. The song really played well to her strength. Her powerful bright vocals really made the chorus part so alive and shining. Its a shame that the verse production was less engaging, but listening to the song’s bridge to the last chorus and outro was such a fantastic and wonderful experience. The rest of the tracks in the EP were solid as.well with Linguine and Empty as the standout tracks.

She has a voice that can wring all the goods out of a song, I wish she was releasing something more my taste. Not that I love love is far from something I would listen to, there’s just something about the chorus melody that feels awkward. It seems like they felt the need to have these high points just because that’s what great chorus usually do, but the way it gets there just doesn’t flow well. still not a bad song, I will check out the album
