I’m going to say something that might feel surprising coming from this blog: I much prefer the CORTIS-penned song on &TEAM’s new album to their more melodic, vocal-focused title track. Good Boy carries so many hallmarks that tend to make me wince (autotuned rap, chanted hook, truncated runtime), yet the combination just works here.
Part of this is due to &TEAM themselves, who are much better than this song and help elevate even its worst instincts, but the biggest asset here is Good Boy‘s sheer silliness. When it comes down to it, it’s not trying to be a moody, serious piece like Mark On Me. It’s just stupid, and sometimes stupid music can be a lot of fun.
Apart from a few misguided moments that are too reliant on vocal effects, Good Boy delivers an addictive groove and some diverse rhythmic phrasing that make its central shout-along hook work well. They even carve out room for a nice influx of vocals. The pre-chorus acts as a vital contrast to the rest of the track, reminding us of what &TEAM do best. Ultimately, Good Boy is too under-formed and throwaway to warrant too high of a rating, but I’ve been playing this so much more than Mark On Me and I’m happy to see it given a music video.

For a shouty boy band song, it actually isn’t that bad. Its the small choices made, like the deep bass creating an instant mood. In less deft hands, this could have been a disaster but it turned out okay!

the best part of this song is the synth bass that sounds like something that would play during a fight between godzilla and king ghidorah and the extremely dom sub lyrics that makes me happy that at least something vixx related is being carried on to the new generation

Hmm, I really liked Love Jang, Accelerate, and of course Night to Howl, so I’m disappointed to see this one released instead. I’m actually kinda shocked you like this one Nick cuz the shouting is pretty bad, and I’m a shout defender. Did these boys groups shout you into submission? 😄

This one has grown on me to the point where I think it would have made a better title track than Mark on Me. It’s certainly more eye-catching and fun. The beginning of the chorus, especially the move in the choreo where it looks like they’re lifting up a bazooka or something, reminds me of Maverick by The Boyz.
