Song Review: X:IN – ZZIRIT (ft. Luísa Sonza)

As of this moment, X:IN have the “honor” of being the lowest ranked act in my “Ultimate Artist Ranking feature” on this blog. That standing should be celebrated in its own way. It takes a certain commitment to beat everyone else out for the lowest rung.

Today, the group has extended their reign with the release of their first full album. It comes along with the peculiarly titled ZZIRIT featuring Brazilian artist Luísa Sonza. And, during the opening verse I briefly thought this might be the song that pulls X:IN up a bit in rank. But true to form, ZZIRIT becomes intent on terrorizing us with the worst kind of non-chorus.

It’s not that ZZIRIT‘s verses are amazing or anything, but at least they have some energy and focus. I’m not sure what inspired the songwriters to completely upend that (limited) goodwill for the chorus, but the lazy talking that “highlights” this segment is neither convincing nor enjoyable. They’ve got “a flame in the veins” or something and I still don’t know what a ZZIRIT is. Run away, Luísa Sonza. Run far away.

  1. Yk, between them and Lay, I respect them a lot for their earnest approach to churn out bullshit even if they have no intent to do it on purpose. Like with Cortis and Katseye, it’s like their ragebait is on purpose. And as a result, I have a soft spot for this group and it makes me wanna root for these underdogs, considering they lack the resources Cortis and Katseye (and even Lay) have for better producers.

As for this song? I love the baile funk beat here, though as always, they end up switching to a terrible chorus.

    6 (5, 7, 6, 6) for me

    • Also, “Zzirit” is a stylized term of the Korean onomatopoeia 찌릿 (jjirit) which means a tingling or electric sensation (like a quick spark or a flash of excitement)

And this song does nothing tbh.

  2. I think many of my thoughts on Sugar High can be applied here.

A good-decent verse cannot mask an atrocious chorus. (This one isn’t as grating as that one, but still pretty bad)

    So 5.25(4,7,55)

  3. this is my first time checking them out since I’m usually anti-hip hop in kpop, but this is not nearly as bad as I expected based on the review 😂 The chorus drop is pretty satisfying and the girls can definitely rap, which is more than some hip hop focused groups can say. The album isn’t that bad either! It’s more eccentric than I tend to listen to, but at least it sounds like someone was inspired to make it and the members are passionate in their delivery, as opposed to the AI generated-esque/trend-surfing style many groups stick to

  4. I see that you never liked them since beginning. you always give them bad reviews and give other big group songs good reviews even if they are trashy… BTW your page name is suitable for your personality “ biased “

  5. Imagine if X:IN competed in X Factor and performed one of their songs. They would definitely put the X in the X Factor. Haha.

TBH I would probably switch the rating for Girls on Fire and this song. The prechorus in Girls on Fire pisses me off more than any moment. EWWWW is not it.

  6. y’all are so biased against this track just because it’s X:IN. like be serious, does a song really deserve a 5.75 just because the chorus uses an anti-drop? that’s such a weird way to rate music. atp it feels like you only review their releases so you can have your designated punching bag in every review.😕😕

    • honestly same, ik we need more good music in kpop but sometimes we need that one artist who only releases absolute dogshit for our entertainment 😭

way more entertaining than artists who only go for mediocrity or calculated ragebait

  7. It’s giving “Go girl, give us nothing” vibe.

I didn’t really giving a try on their album, but I wonder did their b-side have the same quality as this?

  8. just to provide some context from a Brazilian perspective… Luísa Sonza is an artist of very poor musical caliber, so this song is a fitting match for both her and X:IN

  9. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m kinda happy that they never disappointed us by releasing bad songs with every releases. I guess this is where we say keep up the bad work? LOL (pun & shade intended). Nick is so generous by giving it 5+ points thanks to the production, its less than 4 for me personally.
