Song Review: V01D – My Youth

Rookie band V01D debuted earlier this year but, for whatever reason, I never got around to writing about their music. My Youth was meant to come out a week ago but got pushed back. They compete with a surprising number of new, young K-bands who occupy a space that artists like DAY6 and N.Flying re-popularized over the past decade. However, I’m not immune to teens with guitars singing about their youth, so what’s another act to throw in the ring?

My Youth has plenty of oomph behind it, and that’s half the battle when it comes to music in this genre. At its best, the chugging guitar has the punky undertones of early Green Day. The vocals aren’t nearly as idiosyncratic, but they’re powerful enough to fuel the song’s shout-along chorus. I wish the songwriting was a bit more developed, as it feels like paint-by-numbers rock structure, but I like how the song never lets up. It’s a burst of energy that keeps exploding, and that’s just how a rookie band should sound.

  1. They have two songs (Tug of War and The One) that got me through one of those periods were releases were just not happening for me. Endless Credit was pretty good imo. Maybe I need more time with this one…there are things I like and things I don’t, so only time will tell if it has staying power in my playlist. For now it is an 8/10
