EXO – Sing For You

EXO have had quite a year in 2015. Honestly, I’ve become more interested in them this year than I have since their debut in 2012. Love Me Right, in particular, was immensely enjoyable. I definitely have a bias towards uptempo tracks, but it seems fitting that the guys would try their hand at a ballad for the winter season. Sing For You is definitely a ballad, and a spare one at that. The entire song floats by with little fanfare, focusing instead on the smaller touches, like the gorgeous harmonies in the second verse. I don’t think it’s the type of single that could have found success any other time of the year, but it fits December. For my first listen, I was underwhelmed, though the chorus melody certainly stuck out. And although I’ll never love it as much as Love Me Right or Call Me Baby, I do find myself drawn back to the song’s simplicity. It fits particularly well in the context of an album, and the simple, dreamlike music video attaches needed visual intrigue.
