K-Pop A-Z: Infinite – Bad

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Bad (from Reality – 2015)

Though its simple chant of a chorus was initially disappointing for a group who had made their name on the strength of such indelible melodies, Bad’s hip-hop inspired arrangement is bolstered by the symphonic grandiosity that drives its instrumental. Its opening verse is heralded by some of the most dramatic strings k-pop has ever given us, and that sense of theatricality continues to crest even as the song shifts towards trendier moments. Through it all, the members’ effortless charisma and vocal firepower keep things feeling dynamic and unpredictable, especially as Woohyun attacks the final chorus with an unbridled, climactic power note.

  1. I got into kpop in late 2014 and this was the first Infinite comeback that I got to experience firsthand. I remember it totally blowing me away.

The “man I love this song” at the beginning may be silly but it gets me hyped every single time.

    • It’s funny because I was the exact opposite. Initially, I really wasn’t sure about the chorus. It didn’t help that it was following up a song as incredible as “Back.” But, I’ve obviously come around to it in a big way.
