Can U Smile (from Evolution – 2011)

Released in two versions, the original’s scuttle of bright synth set the perfect backdrop for this catchy update to the classic boy band sound. Can U Smile’s melody plays like a ballad, but the song is supported by a surprisingly potent, high-tempo instrumental that adds intrigue to what might have otherwise came off as a little cheesy. The driving drum beat is the one constant as the production flirts with orchestral samples, power pop surges of guitar and pure bubblegum dance. Somehow it all comes together to create a disarmingly charming delivery method for the group’s winning personalities.
