Song Review: Kep1er – Sugar Rush

Kep1er - Sugar Rush

Full disclosure: leading up to this release I promised myself I would forgo the usual parody review that has become a Bias List tradition when new music is released via the Universe app. After all, this whole venture has lasted much longer than I expected and my creative well has begun to run dry.

But then… I was inspired! This new Kep1er track is called Sugar Rush? Well, this calls for a song parody! So, here’s my musical review — set to the tune of The Archies’ 1969 classic Sugar, Sugar.

Let’s turn on the oldies and sing along!

Sugar
Oh, Kep1er, Kep1er
You have joined Universe
And released a crappy song

Honey
Oh, Kep1er, Kep1er
You could make something good
But instead, this is kind of wrong

I just can’t believe
The beats are so familiar
(I just can’t believe it’s true)
I just can’t believe
That irritating chorus, too
(I just can’t believe it’s true)

Sugar
Oh, Kep1er, Kep1er
You have joined Universe
And released a crappy song

Honey
Oh, Kep1er, Kep1er
You could make something good
But instead, this is kind of wrong

When I hear a song
I know how sweet a hook can be
(I know how sweet a hook can be)
Spending all my time just
Searching for a melody
(Searching for a melody)

Oh-oh-oh-oh, sugar
Pour a little Sweetune on it, honey
Pour a little e.one on it, baby
Make the song so sweet, yeah, yeah, yeah

Pour a little Brave Sound on it, oh yeah
Pour a little Full8loom on it, honey
Pour a little Hwang Hyun on it, baby
We’re gonna make your song so sweet, yeah, yeah, yeah

But make sure to avoid The Hub, honey

Ah, sugar
Ah-ah-ah, Kep1er, Kep1er
You have joined Universe
And released a crappy song

Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Honey (honey, sugar, sugar)
Sugar sugar (honey, honey, sugar, sugar)
You have joined Universe

  1. .
Despair from this app causes Nick to bleed
Why wherefore and wither do these songs need to breed?
From the usual bag of tricks
A quick fix Is in the mix
    And clicking 1.1x speed

  2. the chorus is like a really lame take on RV’s “Power up” , which is an incredible song.

I really like Izone and I know these are different groups with different members, (different management idk?) and I just feel like there’s such a drop in quality between these groups’ material.
Izone debuted with a chart topping song and remained to have very popular comebacks, even with varying degrees of quality. Kep1er just hasn’t had their “La vie en rose” or any musical material that’s really stuck for me.

Anyway, Kep1er is a continual bummer group for me.

  3. I was predicting your review would have some interplay on the Candy Crush Saga game. This is 100% a better review execution choice, hahaha.

    Please me, impress me
Universe release a good song (you better)
    Please me, impress me
My ears want you to not (they do)

    Make, make, make, make
    All these terrible mistakes
    That you call music
    Because they are totally shit

Why do Kep1er, why do Kep1er, why do Kep1er
    have to release “Sugar Rush”
Why do Kep1er, why do Kep1er
have to sing a melody-less piece of fluff

Why do Kep1er, why do Kep1er, why do Kep1er
    have to release “Sugar Rush”
Why do Kep1er, why do Kep1er
have to sing a melody-less piece of fluff

  5. Secret fact about Sugar Sugar, this song pops OFF at karaoke. People only remember the first half of the song, but are easily blown away during the second half which is just vocal riff after vocal riff. Highly recommend for my karaoke singers out there.

  6. Well… there’s probably this conversation going on somewhere in WakeOne:
“Okay, so the director wanted Kepl1er to join the Universe app. But we need a song.”
“So what? We can find a song from the remaining collection of demos, right?”
“Yeah, but Boss said ‘we can’t waste the good songs on that sh*t app’ and the budget is only 2000 dollars”
“Okay, let’s just pick the half-ass demos and tell the producer we’ll record but we need it finished in two days.”

  7. I thought this was going to be a cover of one of my many favorite AKB48 songs that they did for the Wreck It Ralph soundtrack… This definitely is nothing close, unfortunately.
