The Boyz’ Japanese discography includes some of their best and worst material. New single Delicious leads their upcoming album and splits the difference between these extremes. It’s unlikely to inspire much excitement, but its laidback groove won’t ruffle many feathers either.
When first watching this video on YouTube, the algorithm immediately played the chorus of Giddy Up after the song had finished. This was a jump scare in the best way, showing just how much the group’s music has changed (and worsened) over the years. In comparison, Delicious feels like a fun little appetizer — inconsequential when stacked against the pop feasts The Boyz used to deliver.
This song has its strengths. The vocal-centric pre-chorus is a real treat. I wish the rest of the track harnessed a sound this robust. Sprinkles of synth and electric guitar show up here and there, offering welcome jolts of interest. But, these elements are tied to a tired trap-pop song that’s too lackadaisical for its own good. Imagine if the producers had opted for a brittle funk beat instead, fully spotlighting the song’s icy synth and giving the guys a genuine groove to bounce to. Instead, Delicious‘s better instincts are neutralized by its low ambition and dull melodies.

I liked ROAR and the entire BE AWAKE album, but their musical decline has been sad to witness

That prechorus is shamefully wasted on this song!
When it comes to The Boyz, I will forever be upset about what could have been. I was such a huge fan of their early work (still some of my favourite kpop songs of all time).

Anyway, this song is okay. It’s pleasant and fun but doesn’t really have a lot to it, very much background music.

I’m with you. They came to Chicago last year and I would have seen them if their music had stayed as strong as their early stuff.

I think it is really cute, as long as I don’t overthink it and it isn’t followed by an autoplay of another better song.

It’s not great but not bad either. My bias for THE BOYZ definitely plays a factor in how much I like this.

ok resident deobi here i dont rlly think its fair to say the quality of their music overall has declined like imo as their tts have decreased in quality their bsides have gotten much much better….like back in 2018-2019 tbz were primarily singles artists where a good 60% of their bsides (i say 60% bc a few of my all time favs came from that era) were pretty damn forgettable. hell even as a huge deobi i skip half of each of their albums from that era 😭 but starting in abt 2020-2021 u can rlly tell they stepped up their game on that front and started to flesh their discography out (with chase and breaking dawn being the most striking examples imo) but unfortunately that came at the cost of their tts not being as memorable as they used to (with roar being a very notable exception). anyway just my thoughts lol

But i like their recent songs though. Whisper is definitely my top 1 song from the boyz so far, and i actually prefer whisper and roar to their older songs like boy, right here or the stealer. Well at the end of the day it all comes down to our music preference i guess. Also not to mention that their recent bsides are of better quality than their older ones. Be aware is just such a masterpiece for me.
