Ren’s penchant for colorful, over-the-top pop music makes him the Nu’est member I was most excited about going solo. With any luck, he’d use 2021’s Rocket Rocket as a template and craft an entire album of big club bops. There’s a hole in the market for a male idol like that.

Ready To Move targets the dancefloor, but in a more subdued way than I would have expected. It’s an amiable toe-tapper — almost impossible to dislike. The brisk disco-funk beat and punctuations of brass deliver a sound perfect for summer. The track is shimmery and bright and chugs along without unnecessary roadblocks. But as charming as Ready To Move is, it’s also a bit faceless. You can almost see Ren hedging his bets.

While I may have wanted something more idiosyncratic, there’s always a place in my collection for upbeat pop music. I love the retro synth sprinkled throughout Ready To Move and the song’s breezy melodies are sure to endure throughout the summer months. With any luck, this will prove to be a hesitant stepping stone on the way to more daring material in the future.
