Song Review: Treasure – Move (T5)

Treasure - Move (T5)Ahead of a promised full-group comeback, Treasure have unveiled their first sub-unit. T5 is apparently composed of the five members who claimed themselves the most handsome in the group. Hey, at least they’re being honest about their intentions! Whatever the case, Move throws down a great groove that raises expectations for how Treasure’s upcoming “Reboot” might sound.

Spoken-word choruses are a dime a dozen in K-pop these days, but Move pulls off the approach without sacrificing momentum and funkiness. From styling to production, the song reminds me of early-to-mid 2000’s pop. It’s glossy and beat-forward, but doesn’t skimp on the hooks. The instrumental is addictive right from the start, offering a slick hip-hop groove that grows more lively as the track goes on. I’m not completely sold on the tempo switch-up after the bridge (though I love the brass), but every other moment has my head nodding almost unconsciously.

Move isn’t what I’d call a melodic track, but it still offers plenty of space for the guys to show off. A climactic power note recalls K-pop greats like SHINee and EXO and the switch to falsetto during the final chorus is a nice touch. The verses don’t require much range, but their melodic through line is clear and concise. Treasure revel in the vibe. I’m not sure they’ve ever sounded this confident before.

    • Ngl, I love the classy and modern style of the song. The spoken chorus imo suits the song’s vibes, so I don’t have much of an issue with it. I am not a fan of the parts after the bridge and the final chorus having two different voices felt clashing.
Overall, I like the song, and I’d too give it an 8.75 out of 10.

  1. Dumb lizard brain sexy dance song with black leather and locks is very excellent good. Who is long-haired man? I must know everything.

  2. This sounds soooo good! I love classy guys in suits vibe songs usually and this one like you said, though slightly chanty gets it right with the beat. It’s slick and their vocals sound really good! This is definitely the kinda song that I’ll love when it starts playing on Spotify and I’ll instantly begin vibing.

And honestly every time Treasure comes with another song that I like I just lament the fact that they have so very few cbs compared to other 4th gen groups 🥲. Last year they had 2 + a subunit but something tells me this year we’re gonna have just this one and the upcoming cb. Well hopefully it will be a banger that one is all they would need!

  3. I haven’t been able to dig the chorus yet, but the way the song sounds is so fricking lit! Evokes strong early-to-mid-00’s vibes to me, something I always find to be a welcoming turn. Bcs of the chorus, rating is a bit too high, though, so I’ma put this into the mid-8’s.

  4. This song is great. It’s such a great vibe and groove.

Only criticism is that they could have amped up the second chorus a bit

    8.75 for me as well

  5. Yeah I like this! It’s very slick and laid back and they sell this song really well. I not only get SF9 vibes, but this makes me think of CIX’s initial debut Movie Star and b-side What You Wanted. I want to see some live stages of this.

To your point Nick, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a sign of things to come for T5 and the entire Treasure lineup. I know YG completely revamped the sound and image of Winner after they lost a member and it turned out good for them (Really Really, Everyday, Millions, etc.). In contrast, they didn’t really do the same for iKon and I think that hurt their comebacks in the long run. This feels like the result of a lesson learned.

  6. I’m kind of obsessed with this song and their performance. It’s sexy and a bit cheeky, and they have the confidence to perform the hell out of it. I’ve already seen a numbe of people reacting to the dance practice, which really shows of their sklls.

  7. It’s so good even though i didn’t expect you would rate it this high since you usually prefer bigger sounding songs (and that I was ready to disagree if it wasn’t since I was sold the moment the dance practice was dropped 😅). But just like what everyone is saying here, the elements in this song work well even if it’s more on the classy elegant route that could have been boring given a different production style while this one managed to be satisfying. Agree with the score.
