Co-ed dance group Koyote are holding it down for K-pop’s 90’s class, continuing to deliver comebacks decades into their career. Their music knows exactly what it wants to accomplish, and new single Wish (바람) is another fun burst of energy.
I can’t say I’m always in the mood for a Koyote banger, but the group know what they do and they do it well. And when a song like Wish hits, it can be a ton of fun. Meld bombastic EDM beats with a colorful, trot-adjacent melody and you’ve got an upbeat club track that’s almost impossible to dislike. Wish delivers some of the group’s catchiest melodies in years, utilizing the members well to deliver contrasting textures and tones. Shin Ji sounds brilliant during the chorus, while the guys venture away from hip-hop to deliver melodic verses. We even get a fun key change during the climax!

Woah I haven’t seen Kim Jong Min in a long long time. He used to make me laugh so much on TV. I knew him more as a TV comedian rather than a singer. I love his voice in this song.
The song itself is also fantastic. All three of their voices work together nicely.

Might be my favourite release of July.
