Song Review: Young K (DAY6) – Let It Be Summer

Young K - Let It Be SummerIsn’t it kind of cruel to release a song called “Let It Be Summer” just as we’re entering the last few weeks of summer? I mean, you don’t have to rub it in, Young K!

This is a pre-release track from Young K’s upcoming full album. It’s a straightforward rocker, moving forward on pummeling guitar and cresting with a shout-from-the-rooftops hook. It could easily be a DAY6 track — especially from their Sunrise/Moonrise era. This sense of clear, unwavering energy is both Summer‘s strength and limitation. I don’t think anyone would call it the greatest song they’ve ever heard, but it’s hard not to be charmed by its single-minded aim.

  1. Despite the back to school crowd heralding late August as the end of summer, I maintain that with climate change, summer lasts until mid-October now. At least in Chicago, we’re still in the 70’s if not 80’s well into October these days.

A cute song and video. I love the music video magic of Young K playing an unplugged electric guitar in the middle of the woods and us just believing it.

    • While that first statement is unfortunately true, I’m grateful that this has been one of the mildest Chicago summers in ages compared to the rest of the country/world.

Young K’s shredding on the other hand is anything but. I like the song it sits somewhere between anime OP and Yellowcard which I enjoy.
