Across their past few title tracks, Trendz have caught my ear with a brand of sturdy, rock-influenced K-pop that reminds me of a lighter version of early ATEEZ. This is no surprise given their work with producer Leez — an important contributor to the songwriting success of not only ATEEZ but Dreamcatcher as well.
Like their last comeback, My Way isn’t a song that’s going to set the world (or my playlist) on fire. But it’s a very competent, enjoyable track with bursts of exciting energy. I wish it maintained the intensity of its drop-style chorus throughout the verses and developed its melodies further. It feels like the producers knew their drop was solid enough to carry the track, but just imagine how cool this would sound with a banging chorus to match!
On the plus side, that instrumental centerpiece is pretty satisfying and there are some nice moments leading up to it. The song’s introduction delivers the theatrical piratey singalong Leez & Co. do so well, and the pre-chorus builds on that vibe with suitably bombastic chants. These moments are enough to compensate for My Way‘s duller moves. A climactic power note ties things up nicely, recalling a Wave-style rush of emotion. The fact that I’m relying so heavily on older references encapsulates the track’s strengths and weakness. Its sonic influences are on point. It just needs a bit more ambition to hoist it into epic territory and set it apart from the classics it emulates.

I know! I just assumed by the sentence “.. I’m not sure if i listen to this again after the dust settles”
focus on dust settles, i thought something was wrong about it. my bad, i apologise.

The first verse made me think we were with Ateez in 2019 again. The rest of the song is fine, but damn that first verse got me hyped.

have you heard ven conmigo? its amazing, the only problem with it is how short it is ugh..
also nick, maybe you’ve been asked this before, but would you ever review PLAVE? their songs are really surprisingly good, you should check them out! their recent comeback is very nostalgia-inducing.. (and don’t worry, they’re not AI, more like Vtubers basically :D)

I like the sound, the vocals, the energy!!
It’s a pump up song, and I can see myself cranking the volume while driving to a tennis match or something like that!
I agree with a previous comment about the fact that it reminds me of an early Ateez, or even BTS?
