Song Review: Weeekly – Good Day (Special Daileee)

Weeekly - Good Day (Special Daileee)Well, isn’t this a nice surprise? Not only is this Weeekly’s first new track in ages, but it’s a fan song that’s actually upbeat and fun! Good Day (Special Daileee)‘s effusiveness won’t be for everyone, but I enjoyed its fizzy burst of pop melodies right from the start.

The song’s EDM sound and chorused vocals recall theme songs from the Produce 101 series, but Good Day retains a sense of personality that many of those tracks lack. The structure is remarkably simple, revolving around one giant hook that kicks off the song. Fortunately, this melody is instantly memorable and exciting. I’m not sure how it will age, but for today I’m charmed by its boldness.

Good Day‘s production is equally huge. From blasts of rock guitar to pounding percussion, nothing hear is subtle. Bonus points for a buried synth squiggle during the chorus that recalls ABBA’s legendary Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight). Weeekly are playing within a similarly maximalist sandbox here, and it’s a great niche for them. If only their agency had dropped a little more money on the music video…

  1. Tbh, i dont see this song is soo much better than the after school one. Reminds me of mnet produce series type of song or survival song and so simple but i think its better than last comeback but 8.75? at least 8 for me hmmm

  2. Fun and punchy. Its the kind of song you can listen to once for 30sec behind an ad, a full 3minutes, or in a remix for 12 minutes. The main “It’s a new day line” really sounds like an ad for shampoo or something, now with revitalizing ultrafleuric complexes or something, which is exactly what makes it catchy.

  3. I really like it! Production and songwriting hits in between pre-hyper pop Charlie XCX and EDM pop like Avicii. Great direct for the group and they sound fantastic on it. I love that the chorus vocals are almost entirely layered. That sounds awesome.
I am really excited to see what Weekly does for their upcoming comeback. It’s been a while and this is extremely promising. Really really like this !
