As expected, the popular Boys Planet series is set to spin off more than just its winning group ZEROBASEONE. EVNNE is the first out of the gate, comprised of members who didn’t quite make the final cut. They’ve immediately distinguished themselves from ZB1’s bright pop sound, debuting with their take on the brash Baltimore Club genre. Trouble is certainly a statement, though I’m not sure it’s one I’m keen to revisit.
The idea of K-pop tackling specific sub-genres like Baltimore Club is exciting, but as always you need a great song to tie it all together. Trouble relies heavily on its production, placing generic melodies and sing-talk over the brisk percussion. Each chorus is preceded by a lengthy instrumental drop, and when the vocals finally emerge the hook isn’t memorable enough to work.
I can’t believe I’m going to complain about a K-pop title track being too long in this day and age, but at three and a half minutes Trouble actually overstays its welcome. What begins as a fresh take on the industry’s so-called “boy group noise music” grows more grating as it goes. While I enjoy the energy these guys cast, Trouble could do with a more dynamic structure to add variety. It’s lively, but also a little flat.

i was so happy these guys got to debut together, wakeone and yuhua managing to SOMETHING right for the first time LOL the song when i first heard the teasers made me think it’d be perfect club music, something fast and hard to dance to.
i like the production itself, very my style with it’s hard-hitting rap over it and the melody is quite nice. i was hoping for something a little more than the empty beat drop+ chorus, bcs you know, if you’re going to do a spin on typical boy group noise music might as well try to stand out for it !! alas, it fell short but overall i love the song, though some of it might just be nostalgia for the guys LOL i give it a 7 as well, but it might change with its replay value !!

I am going to presume it is pronounced “Even” not “Yvonne”.
Yo, its crazy, its like others, now with extra farty bass sample. Does anyone make a farty bass sample extractor, because it might be a better song without it. That said, I think it aight, I like it more than I should. I hear a few good voices in there too. The follow on “Role Player” is also full of nostalgic hip hop sounds.

I knew from the teasers that this sound wouldn’t be for me but I’ll listen to it anyway because it’s ZB2. I hope they and ZB1 join forces at some point since they have the better rappers (I especially like Park Jihoo) and ZB1 is more vocal/dance heavy. I think my ideal lineup out of these two would have been the Hanbins, Hao, Seungeon, Keita, Jihoo, and Matthew. Their other promoted track, Role Model, seems pretty fun.

the production and beat is actually pretty good here for a THE HUB track, but just like their other tracks they just don’t have the ear for writing good melodies. I wish Seungeon got to sing more, he was my favorite vocalist on BP after Jay. happy for the boys to get to debut nonetheless, my favorite tracks on the album are JUKEBOX and Even More.

If you think this song is too long, I’m sure you will probably loathe fantasy boys songs…the group has such a rough start with the contract issues and now they are not even given great songs…(or maybe it’s because of their own limitations…)

Random but Nick did you listen to the APOKI song Space that came out this week? I don’t even know who she/they/it is, but it’s definitely KPop and DEFINITELY a really good song

I prefer Role Model, the bside they are promoting along Trouble, and Jukebox is much more style. I like the funkiness. This group does excite me, a lot of my favorite participants from BP are in the group like Park Hanbin and Keita.

I had to look up Baltimore Club. I guess unless it’s opera vs rock I can’t tell musical styles apart. I still don’t understand what dubstep is. Anyway, I kinda like this propulsive beat and their flow. There are parts that could be better. I could do without the drops. But on the whole I like it.

I live in Balitmore and have been around club music for years, on first listen I didn’t hear any Baltimore Club sound in this. On second listen I can hear the bubble popping noise in thr backgroud which reminds me of “Perculator.” New Jeans’ “ETA” was definitely Baltimore Club.
This song isn’t bad and I like the steady energy throughout. I think I’m just happy that Keita is finally getting the overdue attention he deserves. Everytime I see a kid from Treasure Box debut I’m thankful they didn’t debut in Treasure where I feel YG would waste their time and talent.

I want to love this song because I personally love the boys in the group and thought they were all fantastic in boys planet but unfortunately I dont think ill be revisiting the song too often. I think the rating is about right. Its an okay song and certain parts of it I do enjoy but as a whole it just feels sort of meh. Tbh I know they wanted to debut with a different sound than ZB1 but something a bit lighter would feel more authentic imo. Hoping their next song is something more my taste as I really do want to support and enjoy this group wholeheartedly.

Especially as a girl group stan who has little room in my heart for boy groups, I am surprised by how much I like this! It feels fun and playful, and it gives me energy. I don’t know how much I would like the song independent of the music video, but I love the members’ cheeky performances in this vid, along with the choreo!

It’s appealing to my trashy dance lizard brain. I approve heartily.
