Song Review: ONEUS – Baila Conmigo

ONEUS - Baila ConmigoWhen looking back at their discography, I released it’s been a couple of years since a ONEUS title track really grabbed me. Their music is always solid and they come back frequently, but their sound has been stuck in this nebulous zone since 2021, borrowing from various trends rather than developing their own perspective. Baila Conmigo is the latest in this series of sonic turns and feels more like microtargeting than a natural extension of their artestry.

Unsurprisingly, the song is decent. ONEUS’s skill ensures that. The vocals are confident and polished and it’s always nice to hear the guys tackle melodic centerpieces. Baila Conmigo‘s groove is also appealing, even if it feels like a rip-off rather than a revelation. However, the song keeps its ambitions in check. There’s no desire to push further, making the end result feel a bit stifled.

I’m not a huge fan of Baila Conmigo‘s chorus. The second half’s power notes are exciting, but we must wade through a grating sing-song hook before we get there. This melody already wears thin on the first listen. I’m worried about its future prospects. A more dynamic arrangement may have complimented this repetition, crafting natural peaks within the song that could make for a compelling listen.

  1. similar to ‘back for more’ the mv for baila conmigo ends with a more energetic dance break segment. it would’ve been great if this was included on audio track

  2. ONEUS’s music doesn’t hit the same anymore since they lost a member. The song is still great but the spark they had is missing. The song sounds a bit repetitive and I think it could have been a bit more ambitious.

The bombastic sound that was too much in ‘Erase Me’ is needed in this song. ‘Baila Conmigo’ is too tame even though it isn’t.

  3. This is the kind of song that is crafted for fan service in Latin America. I don’t know how much fandom they have there. Skimming through the language of the comments on the youtube, it seems to be 80% Korean, 10% Russian, and 10% all else.

I like the song, like it not love it, firmly in the style of kpop meets contemporary Latin pop. I wish for a song that says Dance, it would make me want to dance more. There is a recent Selena Gomez song with the same name, don’t know if it is a cover or coincidence, “Dance with me” being a pretty generic sentiment.

  4. Yes they mentioned in the showcase that is a fanservice song for Latin American fans.
I agree with the score but I know once they play it in a Latin American tour stop it will elevate to a 9 for me, he.
There’s must be a reason why a lot of groups make a latin vibes song after a Latin American tour, the power of latin american crows.
Song will grow on me but I hope they announce a tour here and add my country because I know I’ll be having the time of my life even If I don’t enjoy the song a lot rn.

  5. Song might grow on me. I actually might just listen exclusively to the Spanish version tbh. Oneus has always been a special group to me despite their sound drifting away from my tastes post No Diggity. It just doesn’t slap as hard as they once did given that they seem to keep going further and further down the sensual concept when I just want some edm with top tier vocal group…

  6. Luna remains the best ONEUS title track for me and since then everything has been sedate and maybe even boring? I miss the bonkers-ness of No Diggity and Shut Up Crazy Hot. I think the group works fine as 5 but I do miss them as 6…I don’t think I would have gotten into them the way they sound now. Also, the horn instrumental in this song reminds me of the theme from Love Story and I can’t unhear it.

  7. I like this one fine, though it’s not a favourite.
I did love their comeback earlier this year, the whole mini-album had a coherent mood which I thought was great – I think I like ONEUS best at their angstiest (like Erase Me, To Be or Not to Be). But I do agree that their comebacks kind of go different ways each time so it’s hard to “trust” that I’ll like a new song… For instance I almost never go back to No diggity or Bring it On. It feels like there’s “go hard” ONEUS and “dramatic” ONEUS and I like the latter better.

  8. No Diggity was the last title track I added to my playlist, everything after that was already pretty mid but after they lost Ravn, the last spark is gone. It’s not that I hate this song but I’m probably going to forget about it in a matter of hours.
Which is so sad since they were my ult group; the ones that got me into K-pop at all in early 2020 during A Song Written Easily-Era

  9. I think that they are still finding their equilibrium as a smaller group. The thing that would have made this song more my thing is if they’d given Seoho more opportunity to belt and let Leedo and Keonhee carry the softest bits. Because the effort shows in Seoho’s voice in a not great way.
