Song Review: POW – Amazing

POW - AmazingBoy group POW’s pre-release Favorite has been a grower for me, and judging by their album’s highlight medley it may end up being the strongest track the guys have to offer. But before they make their official debut, POW have delivered another pre-release in the form of Amazing.

Like Favorite, Amazing is built upon rock elements. However, this time the guitar is tethered to a structure that feels much more generic. This is POW’s answer to K-pop’s darker, more combative boy group dance track. Its heart is in the right place, but any goodwill it generates is undercut by a dull chorus that lacks compelling structure.

Though there are vocals, Amazing‘s chorus is essentially a beat drop moment. The guitar here is catchy, giving the instrumental nice texture. However, the vocal melody and lyrical content are too simple to stick. It makes for a strangely lifeless centerpiece. The “wow, wow, wow” hook should be exclamatory but only comes across as halfhearted.

  1. At first listen it left a good enough impression, similar to Favorite.  At second listen the “so amazing” part is already stuck in my head so who knows, maybe Amazing will also grow on me just like Favorite did?

The “wow wow wow” part is weird/fun for now, but knowing myself, I think there is a huge chance that I will get over the weird part quickly and find it just fun🙃
