I couldn’t tell you how either of rookie group Queenz Eye’s singles sound, though I covered one on the blog earlier this summer. However, they’ve caught my ear with new track This Is Love by taking a more melodic approach that puts their vocals at the forefront.
To be fair, This Is Love is only a notch above the pleasant inocu-pop churned out by the majority of acts this year, but it stands out by putting more bounce in its step and keeping the focus on a series of satisfying melodies. The production’s haziness is countered by a brisk beat and splashes of brass that give it a summery atmosphere. The chorus feels classic and classy, surging with an emotional edge and building toward a nice climax as we enter the finale. It’s not the most idiosyncratic thing I’ve ever heard, but that’s not the point. It’s a solid song, delivered well.

I was hoping you’d review this one after I stumbled upon it this weekend. Taken just as audio, I can see the 8 rating. But the video—my favorite style for K-Pop where they just dance in different locations—made this feel like a 9 to me. Loved their unfailing energy.

Holy key change, Batman! Right at the right time, and also pop in a shed load of white noise synth at the same time. The producers got this chorus right.
I like the Song Sohee song out last week as well. The interpretive dance styling in the video is a choice. But the song itself is a nice marriage of traditional gugak with 80’s revival dance – city pop.
