I spend a lot of time (probably too much!) complaining about the things that annoy me when it comes to K-pop agencies, but in YG Entertainment’s case I’ve always loved how they’ll occasionally extend an album’s life cycle by promoting a song months after its release. B.O.M.B comes from Treasure’s summer project Reboot, appearing late in the album’s tracklist but standing out thanks to its slick second-gen K-pop sound.
This “Kaboom” version doesn’t seem to change much about the track other than an added dance breakdown, but that’s fine because the original was already successful. It opts for a throwback, roller rink ready sound with production that feels very 2012-era Brave Brothers. The instrumental is a nice blend of smooth and punchy, hitting with stabs of percussion in all the right places. The synth textures are well-chosen, evoking the 80’s but not in an obvious way. They add to the production’s light, airy appeal.
Even better, B.O.M.B‘s chorus stakes its claim on a melodic centerpiece. It’s not a particularly ambitious hook, but I’d take this any day over another tired chant-shout catchphrase. The track is consistent in its energy and drive, proving that sometimes simple is best. In fact, I still prefer the original version minus the unnecessary breakbeat interlude.

This is incredibly pretty! Agreed the original works better without the dance break.
