tripleS’s various sub-units have blitzed through several styles while maintaining the same general vibe. Now it’s time for a unit focused on balladry. It is the winter season, after all! Korea loves nothing more than a ballad during the cold winter months. tripleS Aria are happy to oblige, delivering the pretty — but dull — Door.
Yep, this is a K-pop ballad alright. It’s the boilerplate example of the form, cresting in an emotive chorus underlined by plaintive piano and filtered percussion. The girls sound good and the song casts an undeniable mood. But for me, the melodies just aren’t strong enough to make me want to sing along. “Singing along” is one of the most important tenets of a good pop ballad, so for now I’ll take Door as a showcase of the group’s vocal potential rather than a standout in their discography. Its climactic high notes are pretty stunning, after all.

Worse than ballad dull, its old school ballad dull. Like a ballad from a decade ago from a band long forgotten about.

I think it’s really lovely, even if it’s a more standard ballad. With this type of song, their vocals can shine much more brightly than with the usual pop tracks. Especially appreciate clearly hearing Nien’s voice in this, since she hasn’t had many opportunities so far.
And the music video is really magnificent, too! With my (huge) bias included, I will give it an 8.75 rating.

After all, even to me, an enjoyer of ballads, sometimes bias plays the biggest role in a ballad. I mean, if Chen was to sing this, I would certainly like it more hehe. But it’s not bad nevertheless. I’m guessing for Nick it could be Woohyun, or maybe even Woohyun can’t make him be a fan of a ballad?😅

I’m a sucker for ballads so I like this. The melody is fine but her voice is great. Those strings will always get me.

It’s a decent ballad and the last third has great high notes. Solid 6.5 it’s great in the moment but not something I’d actively seek out (as is usually the case with ballads for me)
