It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly three years since DAY6 released a new album. The aptly-titled Fourever is their first as a quartet and a welcome return for one of the most dominant idol bands of the last decade. Title track Welcome To The Show offers a suitably dramatic sound to usher in their comeback, though a more diverse set of melodic ideas could have set it over the top.
Structurally, Welcome To The Show is a little unique. Rather than carefully follow a common verse/chorus structure, it feels more like a rock strong couched within EDM’s “build, build, drop” framework. This is something I’m very into, though Welcome To The Show also threatens to become a one-trick pony. The melody in its opening verse (chorus?) is oft-repeated, albeit at differing energy levels and contexts. I can’t blame the guys because it’s a supremely catchy and sentimental hook, but an equally strong counter-melody would have greatly benefitted the track.
On the plus side, DAY6 wring as much as possible from this repetition. The song explodes in stadium-ready chants, delivering a sense of catharsis that makes you want to sing along at the top of your lungs. The guys have always pulled off this energy well, but their music is at its best when combining this with a grand sense of ambition. Welcome To The Show sounds more ambitious than it actually is, and that’s okay. I’ll always be a sucker for bombastic arrangements and sing-from-the-chest intensity. This song has both of those qualities in spades.

was expecting not to like like this that much, the whole album reminds me of their stuff off of daydream (2016) but more introspective / reflective in sound. nice return to form with the four of them!

As a huge My Day, I’m so glad they’re finally back! From the teasers I knew I would love this song and it’s pretty similar to their older songs, Better Better (which also has a chanted chorus) and Best Part.
I was wondering if they would go for another ballad title track considering how well You Were Beautiful is doing on charts nowadays but I’m glad they went for an upbeat celebratory song instead.

I haven’t been present for their comeback since Days gone by in 2018, and this time nostalgia hits like a truck! It’s so nice to see them back, idk what happened with Jae, and the title to even be Fourever means they pretty much parted ways I guess. Miss his voice in this a bit though. I like this more than I thought I would when I went through the highlight medley, and some others from the album too.

Yeah I agree. I think it works as an anthemic and sentimental “we’re back” song and I would love to sing along to this in a crowd (please go on tour Day6) but I would’ve liked a little more variety in the melody.
But overall I’m really happy with the album (especially as I wasn’t a big fan of Negentropy). Sad Ending is for sure my favourite.

I got a little teary while watching the mv. I can’t believe it’s been so long since they dropped music together, I really missed them
The song is lovely, I hope the rest of the album is as good

I’m a huge myday, but I couldn’t get excited for this comeback. Jae was my ult bias in all of kpop and I miss him way too much to be happy about this. Also, you call the album aptly named, but I despise it with all my being. They’re basically putting hand sanitizer on papercuts.

‘Fourever’ pretty much tells us never to expect Jae back, which is a bit oooph.
I feel like Jae must have played a significant role in their songwriting, because their releases as Even of Day weren’t as catchy to my ears.
But I like this song. Having Day6 back is like coming home. They were one of the first Kpop groups I ever liked. It’s like comfort food.

this is what I want when I hear that a veteran group would comeback after x year(s)
9.25/10 for me

Check out the b-sides “Sad ending” or “Get the Hell Out” as potential buried treasures- DAY6 haven’t really done harder rock songs for a while and these definitely satisfy the itch

I enjoyed this song more than I thought I would. The band still isn’t the same without Jae.

I was a big Day6 fan but tbh with the departure of Jae I am not really that interested anymore. Jae has always provided that sprinkle of magic in his songwriting and his georgeous vocals. If you listen to the older Day6 songs he always had the best lines used his vocals to express such a wide range of emotions.Without him to me the music has kind of lost its sparkle.
