With the new LOONA-adjacent act ARTMS steadily releasing music, the renamed Loossemble are here to offer their own addition to the ever-expanding LOONAverse. Last year’s re-debut Sensitive showed promise, and new single Girl’s Night builds on that with a blast of feel-good fun.
The song is still firmly within their wheelhouse, powered by muted synth textures and many shifts in energy. I’m not so thrilled with those aspects of the track, but its bounding chorus is strong and stylish and Girls’ Night builds to a standout climax that sends it out on a high. In another world, this would be a bumping, roller rink ready summer standout. The song is a little too fussy to get there, but I appreciate this energy for Loossemble.
As usual, my biggest gripes surround Girls’ Night‘s dependence on structural tropes. The second verse energy shift is a major buzzkill and the overstuffed instrumental would be better off streamlined to its most addictive elements. On the plus side, the girls sound great, delivering a crystal clear performance that smartly forgoes sing-talk in favor of a more robust performance style.

the verses are my favorite part about this. I wish the chorus were stronger.

I think the song is underproduced, and how. The structure, songwriting, and theme is almost Girl’s Generation or perhaps even Twice worthy. But the production is so lackluster. I think the girl’s do well enough with what they were asked to do. But I think it could have been thrice as good if the people in the booth thought “roller rink summer neon disco ball” and kept their eyes on that ball.
Coincidentally this morning I woke up with the dream that IVE released an 81-track album of all bangers.

That’s kind of how LOONA et al sound. Interesting enough arrangements, sometimes even real instruments, and then really poor mixing that leaves them sounding dry or flat.
I think I like it though? If nothing else, I like all the post-LOONA tracks a lot more than I liked LOONA’s actual tracks (not counting solos or subunits — 1/3 and Chuu’s Heart Attack were great)

While not as charming on first listen to me as their initial title track this is still VERY solid to me and the mini is also good.
Did you ever listen to their prior mini album? I regret not recommending it as I feel ‘Colouring’, ‘Newtopia’ or ‘Strawberry Soda’ are 100% tracks you might consider buried treasure worthy.

100% agree! I was surprised not to see any of them in the buried treasures
Some great b-sides this time around as well. Obsessed with Moonlight and Starlight and Boomerang gives me Red Tape vibes

The overproduction mention is spot on but it doesn’t totally ruin the song for me. I would say it succumbs to “IZ*ONE Syndrome” where the song is overproduced yet it still works for some reason (i.e Panorama)
