Song Review: Kim Woojin – I Like The Way

Kim Woojin - I Like The WayKim Woojin — formerly of Stray Kids — has crafted an enduring solo career, teaming with big name producers like Ryan Jhun to deliver solid grooves that echo the successes of other K-pop soloists.

I Like The Way is the latest in this line and it’s as enjoyable as it is generic. There’s nothing here we can’t get elsewhere on a bigger budget, but Woojin performs the material well and the track harnesses its insistent bassline with style. As far as songs of this genre go, I Like The Way is neither great nor bad. It hits all its marks, doesn’t do anything weird or fancy, and leaves traces of its groove behind. It’s a nice fit for Woojin, but he deserves more idiosyncratic material.

  1. Its a perfectly competent song, production, performance. Real nice in spots. Arguably better than most, but there are so so many soloists on the slinky R&B slick light boogie tempo pile. What it lacks is over the top charisma. Also the intensity dial is set at about 90 – 95 % when it needs to be at 110%. ”I like the way that you move” – you are telling us, not showing us. All light and no heat.

It also makes me miss Wonho. Wonho who would slink the shit out of this material. Oh Wonho, when are you coming back from your military service. There is a Wonho-muscle-sized hole in the soloist line up in kpop, and this one does not fill it.

    • loved everything about the song and the mv, the lyrics were crazy good too. The visuals were amazing as always; whatever woojin does he makes it amazing.

  2. HE DESERVES NATHING!!
…okay, sorry, I know this blog is about the music, and I’m biased as a fan of SKZ. I just wanted to say Kim Woojin is unique in that I’ve NEVER seen a group or an agency react to an artist’s departure quite in the same way. I don’t claim to know anything about why he left, really, it’s just clear that he left on awful terms. The group went to the trouble to RE-RECORD THEIR ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY WITHOUT HIS VOICE ON IT, which is something that’s unprecedented as far as I know. It might be purely interpersonal drama, who knows, but the group was also clearly really broken up about it when it went down. Just gives me a weird feeling about him. And this is unrelated but I felt that he was pretty cavalier about those sexual assault allegations, although they seem to have been fabricated, I just thought his response was sort of tone deaf. But hey. It’s about the music. Yay music

    • Why the need to even comment that? There’s two sides to a story and we haven’t seen any of both sides, we only saw the emotional struggle Skz went through because it was exploited by their company (they didn’t assess the problem, didn’t halt activities when they should have given them at least time to process what had just happened, and made them work in that vulnerable state broadcasting it to the public).

Nobody’s wrong to have an opinion, but there’s times and places, this isn’t the place or time for you to voice out your “worries”, and I’m saying that because that last part you wrote “But hey, it’s about the music. Yay music”, sounds like you want to bring attention back into the allegations and his response to such allegations. That’s a dead story and everything is cleared up, you have the right to have an opinion on it but it’s reaching way too far when you try to imply that there’s still something wrong regarding that.

    • Enough with the SKZ victim mentality!

You want someone to hate go take it to JYP, you fans are so twisted you eat your own group members all the time. Every week/month it’s another one you all need to leave. How is Hyunjin and those trucks demanding that he leave and all those allegations?

Yes it about the MUSIC so stick to it and stop being so delusional desperate for attention.

Woojin’s album is excellent, his vocals shine, his dancing matches the rhythm helping to convey the mood.

Summery funky bop and you know what else Woojin is smiling enjoying himself throughout.

      You should try it.
Stick to commenting on music or stay away from things about Woojin no one asked you to be here and frankly I am tired of seeing the hate pathetic nonsense. You love SKZ so much stop running behind Woojin.

      Fine Peace ✌🏿
