Song Review: Bang & Jung & Yoo & Moon (B.A.P) – Gone

Bang & Jung & Yoo & Moon (B.A.P) - Gone“Bang & Jung & Yoo & Moon” is a mouthful of a unit name and balks at K-pop’s love for catchy acronyms, but older fans will likely recognize the (shortened) names as members of boy group B.A.P. They debuted in 2012 and went on to have a rocky relationship with their agency. After defying the odds and moving through several reunions, they now exist as a four piece. New single Gone makes for a sentimental return.

This style of cathartic rock track is often chosen to give its performers a chance to emote, and Gone‘s familiar drive feels like a comfortable balm. It’s not trying to do anything ambitious or weird. The song simply wants to harness the group’s decade plus history and make you feel something. With this said, Gone will likely have its biggest appeal with mega fans. As a more casual listener, the track comes across as solid but unremarkable. The guys sound great and Gone doesn’t make any sonic missteps, but its constant desire to color within the lines and restrain its own ambition makes for a somewhat bland listen.

Still, I’m always happy to see older generations of K-pop stars return to the fray and remind listeners of their legacy. B.A.P’s music often had a rock edge, so this softer version of the genre makes sense given this stage of their career.

  1. I think a solid song deserves more than 7.75. The rating is too low for a song simple but well done. Does the kpopsphere got some prejudice against BAP ? It seems so. Even they released a song titled “Farewell” whose link I posted here but unfortunately @Thebiaslist ignored it. Too bad

    • Nick only reviews songs with official music videos. “Farewell” didn’t get one, so that’s why he didn’t review the song.

  2. Even though BAP existed way before I got into Kpop, a quick dive into their discography made me a fan of their rock edge. I find this softer sound and their voices very appealing. Definitely not bland or unremarkable to me✌🏻 8.25

  3. This song grew on me a lot. Totally my personal opinion but in this current era where most of songs do not actually feel like proper songs, this took me back into the nostalgic 2nd generation music era. I was a casual listener to BAP in the past but with this, I am revisiting and appreciating their previous discography even more and became a fan of them (probably a bit too late). I liked the whole album too, not just this one.

  4. What a BS of a review if I ever read one.

The The colour and calibre of a song that Title track Gone and the album Curtain Call; can only comes from B.A.P

Even though is clear that this Album is a love and appreciation of a strong relationship between B.A.P and Babyz; it is also strong enough to entice new fans.

Curtain Call is a K-pop Album by K-pop artists but goes beyond the genre of K-pop.

This is unusual to find in K-pop and where B.A.P shows their strength resilience and universal appeal.

Curtain Call is not a K-pop puppy album it’s a universal music; an album of the highest quality that will appeal to fans beyond K-pop.

People who love music and are open to exploring new music will enjoy Curtain Call.

What makes Curtain Call/Gone a 9.5 for me.
Is the statement of musical intent; K-pop music nowadays are lacking; most time you hear it first listen and unless you are a fan of group and company you will not give it a second chance.

It just repetitive and the sound like a knock- off version of a song you heard before.

What some of these Kpop critics are failing to grasp; are the amount of people who are looking for quality music.

Music that speaks to us and that represents something, of substance music with longevity.

Not sounds that is here today stale tomorrow; B.A.P returned after almost 7 years and already found a gap.

Quality music lovers will embrace Gone/Curtain Call knowing is quality music and everything about it was delivered.

It has the precise impact and reaches the target audience and sends a message that Yong Guk the genius of an artist is above the rest.

Curtain Call is doing exactly what it was intended to; B.A.P members sending a thank you message to fans and exploring identify gaps in the music market.

The review seems forced, nitpicking and looking for something to criticised.

I have read better reviews on here for songs that are of lower quality in K-pop yet given better ratings than Gone

Some of these songs you would not listen to more than once if you are a genuine quality lover of music.

You listen to it today because you’re trying to support the group as a fanatic, but tomorrow you will not play.

That’s not what you get with Gone it is a song that listeners will play and go back to just like most of the BAP songs.

I’ve seen writers and peoplele in the globally saying Gone is not Kpop-Kpop it has a reach beyond Kpop.
