Better Me (Sowon & Umji) (from Walpurgis Night – 2020)

For their final album, the group recorded tracks as units. Better Me sees Sowon and Umji taking a much more hip-hop influenced approach, which is cool but also a strange fit for a GFriend song. I don’t dislike this, but it sounds as if it could have come from many of their peers. The production is a bit dull apart from some cool filtered background vocals and the melodies don’t hit as hard as I’d like them to. Sowon and Umji’s vocals blend very well, though.

  1. This is probably like, #2 or #3 best song on that album, tbh. You can’t beat Mago, period. Then after it’s probably Wheel of the Year or this, then after those two it’s GWRM.

I conflate this song with Irene/Seulgi’s “Jelly” in my head a lot.
