Better Me (Sowon & Umji) (from Walpurgis Night – 2020)
For their final album, the group recorded tracks as units. Better Me sees Sowon and Umji taking a much more hip-hop influenced approach, which is cool but also a strange fit for a GFriend song. I don’t dislike this, but it sounds as if it could have come from many of their peers. The production is a bit dull apart from some cool filtered background vocals and the melodies don’t hit as hard as I’d like them to. Sowon and Umji’s vocals blend very well, though.

Ooh, I didn’t know she had a new one! It’s good, as always, but not up there with her best.

This is probably like, #2 or #3 best song on that album, tbh. You can’t beat Mago, period. Then after it’s probably Wheel of the Year or this, then after those two it’s GWRM.
I conflate this song with Irene/Seulgi’s “Jelly” in my head a lot.
