K-Pop A-Z Review: GFriend – Distance

K-Pop A-Z - GFriendOne song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Distance (from LOL – 2016)

LOL is a very energetic pop album, but of course it has its softer moments as well. Distance is a bit of a weird one, seeming to borrow equally from reggae and harmonica-driven folk. Its chorus has a familiar melody while the verses occasionally dive into classic doowop harmonies. Basically, there’s all sorts of stuff crammed into this little track. But if you listen with a strictly K-pop ear, Distance sounds as if it could have come straight from the 90’s. With all this in mind, the song is decent but pretty inconsequential.

  1. I think this is fiiiine. Very much easy listening.

Also, the melody is the same as that new Fifty-Fifty song, which is pretty funny.

    The harmonica is novel.

  2. this is the kind of genre mixing I love kpop for. The general vibe reminds me of little big planet. It makes me feel good, I love it. 9

  3. I really love this track, actually one of my early favorites from Gfriend and still one of my favorite b-sides. I’m just here for that harmonica.
