Fall In Love (from LOL – 2016)

Preceding the epic Navillera on an album was never going to be easy, but Fall In Love’s strings intro promises more excitement to come. The song is light and breezy, underpinned with distorted guitar to give it a bit of grit. Playful synths and wisps of strings encircle the multi-part chorus, which bounces along with plenty of energy. This isn’t quite title track material, but it’s a solid example of the whimsical Gfriend/Lovelyz/Oh My Girl sound that was so popular in this era. I dearly love the melodic optimism and musicianship at play.

  1. Off-topic but I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the songs/remixes released recently. I know you mentioned your thoughts on the new Lady Gaga single on Twitter so I left it out haha (it’s really good though)

  2. I love love love this song. The instrumental is so so good! Like, it’s not as immediately impactful as like, Navillera, but it’s a great example of what makes their music good– stings, synths, and strong counter-melodies.

As an aside, I’m really glad we’re in the Fs; some of GFRIEND’s strongest work is in the Fs.

      • I think most of their albums have the title track directly after the intro (if one exists), LOL seems to be an exception. Well, and The Awakening, which replaced the intro with a full song.
