K-Pop A-Z Review: GFriend – Hope

K-Pop A-Z - GFriendOne song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Hope (from Fever Season – 2019)

The synth textures that open this track are very effective and the light new jack swing beat that follows makes me think we’re in for another early-career GFriend classic. Hope definitely nods in that direction, but it’s far more weightless than their classics and feels like an ode rather than an extension. That’s still enough to make it a very fun addition to the album, but if I’m looking at a long list of GFriend songs this isn’t one that sticks out to me in any notable way.

  1. The fact of the matter is that this album is easily their worst.

This song is better than Fever (really, what isn’t?) but almost attempts the sound of their earlier albums with different instrumentation. It’s not as successful as we would Hope.

Like, this is fine but, really, in general, I tend to skip most songs on this album.

  2. The instrumental in chorus just sound exactly from S.I.S – Always Be Your Girl, tho the beat is general and universal, but I do hear the similarity from these groups and I know that S.I.S is being influenced by Gfriend as well.
