K-Pop A-Z Review: GFriend – Night Drive (Eunha & Yuju)

Night Drive (Eunha & Yuju) (from Walpurgis Night – 2020)

This might be sacrilegious to some, but I don’t really care for the unit tracks on GFriend’s Walpurgis Night album. I understand they’re a chance to explore new musical territory, but now that the group is divided permanently into units and solos, that new territory has been fully trodden. Night Drive is very pretty (how could it not be with these vocalists?), but its hushed nature is far from what I seek out in a great GFriend track. It’s more of a vibe than anything, segueing into an almost glacial pace right before its final chorus. I love hearing the girls’ lower register, but the song itself doesn’t really compel me.

    • My excitement is immeasurable. As I’ve only been a fan after their disbandment (I was really late to Kpop generally), I didn’t think I’d ever be able to see a proper comeback from them.. but since it says “album”, it does seem to be just that.

Oh how I wish I could just fly to Korea and watch their anniversary concert..

  1. They also released an album release date and concert dates.

Yeah, this one is nice enough, but not super strong. Honestly probably the weakest unit track.
