K-Pop A-Z Review: GFriend – One-Half

One-Half (from Parallel/Rainbow – 2017)

The more I think about it, the more I realize what a solid album Parallel is. One-Half comes toward the end of the track list but loses no energy or bounce. The chorus is almost carol-like in its effusiveness, underlined by swirling strings as the melody glides over the top. This is one of those GFriend songs that could easily have been a Lovelyz track as well, but the powerful vocals in the chorus put their own stamp on it. Exuberant brass helps bring it all together. There’s something so celebratory about this sound.

  1. the comparisons to Lovelyz and carols are spot-on. Actually I’m reminded of Lovelyz’ carol “Twinkle.” I love that song and this one!

  2. I love this song. Honestly I thought it came from LOL or before– a really nice example of how their sound carried through 5 albums without getting stale.

Pretty common for them, but listening to the instrumental by itself is a treat.

    The dance is fun, too.
