Rain In The Spring Time (from The Awakening – 2017)

Every once and awhile, it’s nice to hear a delicate ballad like this. GFriend perform them better than most, and Rain’s combination of twinkling keys and atmospheric synth stabs give the song a very lovely sound. The melodies don’t quite live up to the arrangement, but this is still a pleasant break from the high-octane material that makes up most of this album. Rain In The Springtime‘s sentimental vibe feels especially apt as we look forward to GFriend’s long-awaited reunion next month.

  1. No quote from when you reviewed The Awakening?

This one is a grower. I’m not usually one for ballads, but I like this one a lot. Probably top 2 or 3 of their ballads.

A K-pop album isn’t a K-pop album without at least one ballad. GFriend ballads are always nice, though I rarely return to them on their own. I’d say the same about Rain In The Spring Time. It’s my least favorite track on the album, but I still think it’s quite pretty. There’s plenty of sappy strings, but I’m partial to the fizzy synths during the pre-chorus. I like my pop ballads filled with plenty of made-for-the-stage drama, and Spring Time delivers that sentiment.
