Song Review: TRENDZ – Bad Enough

When it comes to my favorite songs of a year, there are two categories. There are those songs that come from artists who go on to release more incredible material, thus making them an act I follow closely. Then, there are the flukes. The one-offs. TRENDZ have some decent singles in their discography, but as much as I adored last year’s Go Up their overall inconsistency has made it difficult to become a huge fan of the group. New single Bad Enough further complicates that.

To be fair, this is a Japanese single and could be considered an outlier. It’s also the kind of boy group song I almost always dislike. Combine gruff chants with tinny, boring trap beats and you’ve practically compelled my finger toward the “skip” button. This is a very new sound for TRENDZ and allows for flashes of their vocal potential, but the melodies are dull, the posturing is annoying and the track doesn’t really go anywhere. There are some interesting synth flourishes here and there, but they’re not enough to salvage the trudging tempo.

  1. I could have sworn I saw the title of this song before and realized it was WEi’s “Not Enough.” In comparison that song should have been called “Good Enough” and this one “Not Enough, although I guess “Bad Enough” fits too because this is pretty bad.

  2. Well, I guess the song’s called “Bad Enough” cause the song is not “Koong” level of horrific when it comes to boy group slop, but bad enough to grind your gears for you to spam the dreadful 6s for the ratings (which is much worse than a 3 imo) 🙃

Anyways, I find this… meh. The chorus is repetitive, but the first few lines had a tiny shot of what could pass off as melody. Could have been passable but they added that weird sing-talk at 1:05 (and repeated for 4 times…). Idk, I don’t have much to say, given I’ve ulted NCT when I was quite young and impressionable, so I’m desensitized to their copycats (and speaking of NCT’s copycats, I often see them attempt something like 2 Baddies, probs their most boy group music to have “boy group music”-ed, like, maybe switch to Superhuman or Favorite for once?)

(sighs) Well, I’ll give this a 6.25 (6, 7, 6, 6). What’s with Japanese releases from K-Pop groups (especially boy groups) being just recycled scraps?
