ANTI HERO

After a bit of a slow down, My Identity roars back to life with its second unit track. Anti Hero comes courtesy of ONF’s “Off Team,” comprised of Seungjun, Wyatt and U. This is the more performance oriented team, responsible for one of my favorite b-sides (Secret Triangle) from 2021. Anti Hero picks up where that song left off, bolstering its sound with a heavy dose of guitar.

I love when producer Hwang Hyun plays with electric guitar. He tends to wring as much drama from the arrangement as possible. Anti Hero certainly fits within that mold, bounding forward like the soundtrack of an action movie or video game battle. The song itself is pretty simple and not unlike other, more generic boy group material, but I appreciate its focus and energy. The bridge is especially fun, as the percussion ramps up and we get a few dramatic chants placed exactly where they should be — as dynamic support rather than the driving force behind a chorus. The track squanders its chance to go even bigger and bolder during the finale, but this is still a super solid b-side.

  1. ONF album in-depth review?? I can now die happy. I expected Anti-hero to be a good track, but Good Place and Collab caught me off guard. And this is one part of their second album? A good year to be a FUSE 😭Can’t wait to see what they have in store for the next release.
