Song Review: RE:WIND – RE:SET

I’ll always have a soft spot for a fledging act with a couple hundred YouTube views to their name. As I’m writing this, the visualizer to RE:WIND’s pre-release track RE:SET sits at just over six hundred views, but I have a feeling those six hundred people walked away very satisfied.

Even before this release, RE:WIND has shuffled through multiple member changes. I don’t know when they’ll make an official debut, but RE:SET is a promising taste of how their music might sound. The song plays within the soft rock trend sweeping through K-pop’s boy groups at the moment, but does so with aplomb. The melodies are fresh and exciting and the arrangement offers plenty of oomph. Just listen to the way that second verse upends things with nimble keys and an extended sense of build. If this had a bit more budget behind it and bigger names attached, we’d be ready to give it prime placement in stadiums and arenas. The sound is big and bold and boasts a satisfying fullness that bodes well for their future.

  1. ”Thank you Nick for this wonderful, effective ear bleach after that KiiiKiii song,” we all say in unison.

Jokes aside, the song’s pretty good. The way the hooks are sung reminds me of songs from the 90s for some reason (idk, I’m not a 90s baby, so based on my limited knowledge of music from that era, it reminds me of it). And the soft rock production’s also pretty great, and fortunately, executed in a manner that makes the song sound complete. And a key change? Yep, that’s the cherry on top! I’m curious for their debut now.

Rating’s the same, though I am sure it’ll hit the 9s in the future (at least for me)

  2. I gave it a listen and I love it so. I’ll give it a 9. I now just discovered a new unknown group thanks to you haha. I remember I also discovered Chappell Roan before anyone else because of you and I felt so proud when she went viral because I could tell people, ‘I know her before all of you!’ haha.

  4. This is my first time hearing Re:wind, but this is a great first taste. Hopefully they have the right team behind them for good promotions and music in the future

  5. Ahhh yessss, the nugu group showing how its done. And a key change to seal the deal.

If this were, say, TXT, the internet would be all over it, millions of views.

  6. the production of this group was very low income. The album cover for this song is simply hilarious, it looks like an old Cartoon Network cartoon, and the music video needs no comments. Still, they had a good song

  7. The bad webtoon art for the album cover is killing meeeee. Not that it matters but omg.

It would be fun if somebody made a review blog dedicated solely to unknowns like this.

    • I would say the art reminds me more of those 2d ‘animations’ for games like ‘myscene’; or those free software websites that let you do some basic animation.

  8. I don’t know what the photo is you choose for the review, but I’m enamored with it. Something about it feels so nostalgic. Though I’m just learning of them now, I can’t wait to see more (the song plays a part it’s not just cause of the picture lol)

  9. Adding my appreciation here – thanks so much Nick for highlighting this song & group! This song was a real bright spot in my rotation this week. Can’t wait to see what else this group does.
