The month of BLACKPINK solos comes to a conclusion as Lisa caps off February with the release of her first full album. This project has been preceded by a number of singles dating all the way back to last June. Like bandmate Jennie, the album’s tracklist unveils a host of big-name collaborators including popular rapper Future on a version of new single Fxck Up The World. However, the music video opts for the “Vixi solo” mix, giving Lisa (or at least her alter ego) full spotlight.
To be honest, this song was probably never going to be for me. I appreciate its jolt of energy and “get out there and kill it” vibe, but this particular style isn’t something that mobilizes me in the way it might others. The instrumental’s lumbering rumble and madhouse sirens recall hits of the mid-to-late 2000’s, but Lisa’s flow often dips into trendy (and overused) rhythms that fail to set Fxck Up The World apart from other tracks. The shouted chorus is catchy but the lyrics are the same old braggadocios tropes we’ve heard over and over again. The song never says “some shit that’ll make ’em think it, thought-provoking” as verse one proudly declares, making the whole track feel a bit unaware of its own campiness. The lyrics would be better off embracing a sense of humor with more memorable barbs and a knowing wink.
Of all the BLACKPINK members, I do think this genre suits Lisa best. Purely filtered through charisma and energy, she sells the track. it just doesn’t feel particularly unique to her, making the entire exercise veer closer to play-acting than anything. It’s functional for a couple minutes of unbridled intensity, but I don’t see myself returning to it often.

It’s a typical badass song, but with a good production and better than whatever YG would have put out. I agree she sells this kind of music well, given she has that charisma to pull it off effortlessly. Though she could use some spins to make the track feel uniquely like her, but it’s still a decent one.
7.75 (8, 8, 7, 8) for now.

I know this won’t be your favorite, so no surprise there, but it totally works as a performance piece—especially since Lisa’s about to hit Coachella. I just know she’s gonna sell the heck out of this song with her stage presence.
After listening to her whole album, I gotta say—it’s that kind of generic pop I’ve been missing in K-pop, which means I love it. Honestly, I think I like it more than Rosé’s album. She’s giving me mindless bops, and that’s exactly what I’ve been craving from both K-pop and pop music in general. So yeah, consider me a Lisa fan now.

Passable, but not something I’d choose to listen to when stacked against better songs in their discography.

Lisa’s album really looks like “throw it tot he walll and see if it sticks” kind of a thing. Some singles were OK and some were really bad. This was one is in the bad category. Woke Up by XG has shown us how you do this type of song. I seriously don’t have any high hopes for the album anymore. On the other hand, Jennie’s album is shaping up to be decent.

Not gonna lie, I thought this was fire. I appreciate the fact that even though this is heavily trap-influenced, she went all out and gave us a big song. It could’ve been an atmospheric boring track, but she played to her strenghts with this one.
9/10.

Unfortunately and fortunately this is completely the kind of music I enjoy, it’s more for driving around or just watching the performance. I don’t know what it says about me, but I enjoy Future and have for years, I was hoping he would be in the video version. His verse is pretty tame so I’m surprised they opted not to include him . Lisa sells this kind of concept well, it reminds me a little of Rhianna, especially the songs she had with Future and Mike Will Made It.
I have to say Lisa and Jennie have been impressing me with their style. I admit the features are doing some of the heavy lifting but it’s nice to hear them do music that is interesting and not just the run of the mill stuff YG had them performing.

Oh yeah, this is my kind of music! I actually like the solo version better than the one with Future on it. But either way I love this and it goes hard.
Also “They want the old Lisa then listen to my old shit” is kinda badass ngl
Also also, the amount of music we’ve gotten from the Blackpink girls in the past few months is insane. And Jennie’s album is coming in a week! (Along with Lady Gaga’s, which I’m also very excited about. But I digress.) What the hell was YG doing? I feel like we’re getting the musical version of the floodgates being opened, and I’m loving it.
