Big, fun “recession era” pop music has slowly been creeping back into global music trends and I’ve had my fingers crossed that it would eventually find its way to K-pop as well. I didn’t expect this to happen via a group like NTX, who have thus far flown under the radar with a variety of different sounds (and varying quality). However, new single Over N Over is fun with a capital “F,” inviting you to silence your inner critic and relish the bounding beat and sing-along chorus.
There’s a ton of Bigbang-goes-rock spirit fueling Over N Over, but mostly it just sounds like every group of 2012-13 in a great way. After a brief intro, the song opens up and just keeps spreading its wings as we swerve from punchy verse to anthemic chorus. The moment when chorus #1 transitions to verse #1 is pure wish fulfillment for a fan like me who’s always clamoring for momentum and drive in his pop songs. All the while, the percussion chugs along as spikes of electric guitar offer texture and adrenaline. The whole thing relishes in its formulaic approach and I’m not the least bit mad at a song that simply wants to deliver on expectations.
At three and a half minutes, Over N Over is already a healthy length for a modern K-pop song, but it could really use thirty more seconds to go whole ham with a killer climax. During its finale, the track sounds as if it’s going to burst into an extended confetti drop but fizzles out instead. This is the sole part of the “recession pop” formula the song refuses to give us, and it’s a shame. On the plus side, it’ll only have me replaying this utter joy bomb… over n over again.

Ooh, it’s a big pleasant surprise coming from a group like NTX, a small group with a mixed track record on this site. But I like its energy, the fun, shout-along chorus, and the little shots of electric guitar throughout the track. I agree that the song should have extended by adding a bombastic climax at the end, but apart from it, it’s a good, serviceable feel-good music that actually makes you feel good. We barely crossed 2 months into 2025 and boy groups are already killing it! More of this, please!
9 (9, 9, 9, 9) for me.

It reminds me so much of old kpop, which made me so happy.😭😭 Any buried treasure from their album? I’ll gladly check it out.

Much of the album is the tired “skrrt skrrt” stuff they often do, but “Stay” is very nice synth pop and there are a couple decent midtempos.

As you said, Fun with a capital “F”. I loved the beat on this one.

these days im a bit too hesitant to give songs rated 9 on the blog the same rating considering they have something that can risk it falling off, it usually has to do with the song mining off a previous era’s sound but never really hitting the same heights that classics of that era did
this is no exception, i really enjoy the energy in this one but like you said, it’s missing a final chorus that can send it soaring to a new level
so yeah, its an 8.75 for me

Totally agree, I think the missing element keeps it from achieving A-list longevity, hence the 8 there. But I absolutely love the happy, get up and dance vibes

Now this is fun, NTX really impressed me on Peak Time but their output since then hasn’t been that interesting. As soon as the song started with a little Baltmore Club action, I was sold and i’m glad they included it in other parts of the song.
I’m curious is Rawhan produced this? His production is a mixed bag but if he did this, then I hope he continues on this path. Plus I love it when groups look like they’re enjoying the song as much as I am.

Oh man, this could have been Treasure’s comeback. My mind went to Black Eyes Peas’ “I Got a Feeling” rather than Bigbang in the beginning but it does have that YG party anthem vibe. I think the reason it feels like it needs 30 more seconds is that it plays its hand too early and doesn’t really build throughout. But, still a fun song.

Why not both?

Such a fun and nostalgic song! It’s definitely got a spot on my summer playlist for the year, even if we’re still months out from it.

Oh my. It like they took Black Eye Peas and Big Bang in a blender and came out with a baby Song. I have hearing parental DNA from “Love Dust” and “I Gotta Feeling”.
(…. there is another kpop song that is more recent that resembles the chorus more closely, but it will take me more time to find it in the ipod scroll.)
Well, hurrah.

Another super FUN Kpop song and I’m here for it! I love the chorus (so satisfying), the verses, the raps, absolutely everything (they kept me engaged throughout the whole thing). I’m rooting for them and hope this one gives them the push they have been looking for. I still remember when I first heard “Old School”, and then their appearance in PeakTime broke my heart a little bit, so I’m super happy for this amazing comeback. Wishing them the best! 8.75/10
PS: I did not get the BB vibe, but I did think of Treasure. They could’ve also pull this off very well

The nugu boy groups really coming to the rescue this year. I really liked the song. I definitely hear the BigBang (especially the G-Dragon) influence, especially in the part that goes ‘over and over’. I do think BigBang would’ve made it more melancholic, like in Lies and Blue

now that I realize… this song reminds me of some sounds from the R5 band’s track from the album Louder
