Song Review: Apink – Tap Clap

Even though Apink’s annual anniversary releases aren’t promoted beyond a simple behind-the-scenes video, they’re still worth writing about based on the group’s stature alone. Unlike so many of their peers, Apink are still active fourteen (!) years after their debut. And, I appreciate that these celebratory singles aren’t the kind of drippy ballad most groups deliver to mark a milestone.

As its title suggests, Tap Clap is the exact opposite of a ballad. The song unveils a bounding rhythm and singalong hook that recalls the style of bright, fizzy material that was most popular when Apink were at their commercial prime. The song is nothing new or special, but by keeping things simple the ladies are able to squeeze everything they can from Tap Clap‘s familiar sound. Their vocals sound great as usual and the energy is unrelentingly upbeat. Some of today’s newer crop of girl groups could honestly take note!

  1. It sounds nostalgic to me, I really appreciate them really this sort of song for a milestone. Maybe we’ll get a full fledged comeback next year

if any group could pick up this energy (not of a pink but tap clap in particular) I think odd youth would be a great fit oddly enough

  4. Pretty cute. I like it a lot more than a lot of their more recent work (I’m So Sick and %%).

It does feel a lot like the credits to a disney movie, though.

It also needs another minute to develop.

  5. Great song, so much energy in a genuine fun way. They just know how to pick them, and perform them too. Good solid vocals with a lot of character.

Also, they know how much money to spend on the video when at this stage they aren’t out to wow the world with expensive costume changes and special effects. They don’t need AI avatars, just cozy bathrobes in a nice suite overlooking Central Park.

  6. I like their voices more than the song, and parts of the song more than the song as a whole, but it all shines with quality and polish.
