Song Review: Lisa (BLACKPINK) x Maroon 5 – Priceless

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has been working the global press as late with a star turn on the recent season of White Lotus, performances at Coachella and The Oscars and a number of big-name collaborations. It feels like she’s really broken through, which means offers must be flying in. Now is the time to pick and choose.

This being The Bias List, I get to express my distaste for Maroon 5’s oeuvre. If I had it my way, anything even tangentially K-pop related would stay far from their brand of whitebread blandness. However, they’re insanely popular so from a commercial standpoint I guess this team-up makes sense. And rather than stand as a Lisa single, Priceless is very much a Maroon 5 track she just happens to be a part of. Even in that regard, the song is as banal as a cup of room temperature water. Its light, vaguely funky instrumental positions itself in the background, as unobtrusive as pop music gets.

The melodies echo this flatness. Priceless is an early-summer vibe. Music to chill to. By the time Lisa comes in for verse two, brandishing a blend of spoken word and vocals, I’m grateful for a new texture and hint of personality. She’s easily the best thing about this song, and I guess that counts for something. But if she’s going to collaborate with more western artists, I’d recommend targeting performers with more bite and something interesting to say.

  1. lisa heard the complaints that she always get overshadowed by her co stars and decided to fix that by any means necessary but being the best part of a maroon five song is like winning a race against a dying fish

    • I was coming to say this exactly XD And I say this as someone who not only owns Maroon 5’s Songs About Jane, but someone who listens to it frequently.

    • People who keep bringing up Blackpink in BTS stuff and vivecersa like you did here are the real problem. I am not even going to apologise for my comment being kinda rude because I am done with ridiculous fanwar stuff on every fandom and front, I don’t even care if I agree with the content of the comments being made at this point.

  3. The only thing I can say about this is that I love that she beat the shit out of this man. It’s what he deserves, and apparently his creative team also knows this hence the mv 🩷

  4. She elevates Maroon 5 if that’s your kind of style, and it isn’t a bad song at all, just not anything you’d excitedly show your friends. It’s like if you went to music McDonald’s and was happily surprised to find a Lisa McRib to break the monotony of an Adam Double Cheeseburger. You’re still dining at music McDonalds though.

  5. I actually liked Lisa in this song, Maroon 5 was just kind of..there too. She used her softer tones more and I’m a sucker for them.

7.5, wish it had a bit more flavor but it’s just fine for me overall.

  6. Lisa was seriously such a non-factor in The White Lotus, I wasn’t expecting much and I was still disappointed
