BOYNEXTDOOR scored their biggest hit yet with the streaming giant If I Say, I Love You released back in January. They’re on their way to becoming reliable digital chart-toppers in the way few boy groups accomplish, and they haven’t wasted time returning with new music. If I Say, I Love You is included on their newest mini album alongside title track I Feel Good.
With this song, the group bounds back to their most energetic selves. Agency head Zico provides a songwriting assist, imbuing the track with old-school Block B flair. From the rollicking beat to rock guitar, this feels like BOYNEXTDOOR’s most radio-friendly single yet. It’s fun to hear them operate with such widescreen ambitions, but this approach also has its drawbacks. Like too many recent title tracks, I Feel Good is far too short and wastes the opportunity to build toward something truly spectacular. This song length issue usually fades with time and familiarity, but it’s continually frustrating to see my favorite groups return with a two and a half minute track.
Fortunately, I Feel Good is stuffed with musical goodies. There are some great melodies in the pre-chorus and the Leehan-fronted second verse absolutely steals the show. More of these musical twists would have benefitted the song. I’m much less thrilled with the odd, hacked delivery of the “I” in the “I Feel Good” post-chorus. It’s an unpleasant sound that’s repeated way too often and rips me from the track every single time. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get over it, but I hope so because there are many other things to love about the song.

Countdown and The Boyz’ VVV, I think. NouerA’s track was also revised up.

Yeah I did checked it out. Countdown and VVV got 9.25.
It might be hard to top these two I guess but there’s still half of the year remaining.

I really like it. the song length is an issue, but the song is strong enough that it becomes a non-issue to me. I didn’t even notice how they were singing “I” in the post-chorus until multiple people pointed it out and now it kinda irritates me a bit LOL.
I didn’t like 19.99 in the slightest, but this new album is good and what I expect from them. all the b-sides are great.

hmmm, not feeling it. I feel like it could have used a better melody over this beat. I really like the 2nd verse but the shouty (not really shouty) parts dont work well. The chorus feels layed back. This song is trying to be loud but doesnt achieve it well enough.

Of course I overplayed their EP on the first day again, but this time I’m glad that they’re on an upward spiral quality wise hehe. I’m not a fan of that “screamed” I in I feel good, as always I ask for more singing wise and I feel that someone with more skill could have pulled that off better but we’ll see how it’ll age. Right now this EP definitely comes above 19.99, but still needs more charm and is below their earlier ones, especially How? which is imo their best to date probably. Step by step is a nice standout, all of the b-sides are solid but that one stuck with me for now. Also why do I wish that “baby Georgia” was actually about a place you love rather than a person, or am I somehow wrong😅?

Oh, I should be careful what I wish for. I ask for more bratty snot nose punk songs, and I get one, and imma like no thanks.
Actually, the only thing that sticks in my head is that AAHH feel good, AAHH feel good. The rest is gussied up sing song, which sounds bratty but actually is rather tame.
It’s definitely a Zico song, could almost have been a Block B song back when. The difference is that back when Block B were broke strivers trying to prove a point and make their mark on the world. These kids here, this Zico era now, feels safe and middle aged. Its the natural evolution when the outre artist turns softie. Lionel Richie sings the hot and horny “Brick House” then a few years later the lite FM “Dancing on the Ceiling” and such.

All the songs on the mini album are under 3 minutes, and I’m getting irritated. The song’s good still.

Yeah this is so Block B that it kind of hurts that Block B still haven’t made a comeback even after all the hints from last year lol. But I really like how BND still infuse the performance with their unique personality, it really elevates the song. I’m not liking the “I” in the post chorus either but hopefully the live performances help me get past that, with the way I came around to falling in love with the sped-up parts in Earth Wind and Fire after not really liking it at first!

I think Zico should have left the track alone because the songs which he isn’t credited on are so much better.

The length is defs a letdown, I like it but it needs this huge bridge to bring it all together.

This is my least fave tt from them. Between this and But Sometimes the latter’s the stronger rock track. Their performances always elevate the song. Maybe this will grow on me after the stages.

As usual with BND’s songs, the more I listen to them the better they get. This is not an exception. I’m sure with a few performances it will get even better. That’s what these guys do best in my opinion.

Back here after the Studio Choom performance and what can I say? They never disappoint…at first listen it was an 8 but right now it’s a 9 and rising. They are a gem. I’m not saying this is a masterpiece or that they are the most talented out there, but I think these 6 guys together have star power, personality, a clear music identity, and the backing of a big company. Rooting for them🤩

It’s good, I don’t dislike it, but I know I’ll be Stockholm Syndrom-ing myself into loving it after a few repeats.

It’s been tough for me to reconnect with this group’s music (I remember I liked their debut tracks). If I Say, I Love You was not for me but I clearly had the wrong opinion, because isn’t that like a huge hit for them?
Anyway, this song definitely recalls the energy from their debut tracks and I might just be back on track with their music. Gotta say the way the “I” is delivered is what makes the song so fire to me hahha.

Interesting to hear their idiosyncrasies and vocal tones packaged in something more mainstream. However, I’ve just recently finally come around on If I Say I Love You so I’m hoping they return to more indie sounds soon lol. The off-kilter-ness of their sound has been a frequent barrier for me to get over, but I do end up enjoying it a lot once I do.

I still wish the “nal ttara haebwayo ireoke” part is the chorus or at least it’s gonna be the vibe of the chorus but oh well
