This is the month BTS fans have been waiting for, as all seven members will soon have returned from their military-imposed hiatus. New group music will undoubtedly be in the works, but prior to that the guys continue to chug along with solo projects. After a double shot of solo singles in March, J-Hope is back with Killin’ It Girl, a collaboration with American rapper GloRilla.
Killin’ It Girl reminds me most of J-Hope’s Chicken Noodle Soup days of yore, blending a quirky bed of percussion with a pop-friendly hook. GloRilla adds a more intimidating energy, but by and large this is an upbeat jam meant for dancing. J-Hope wrings all he can from the brittle beat, which sounds like spoons repeatedly hitting glass. Luckily, this higher pitch is kept toward the back of the mix, soon overtaken by lush synth that adds great texture to the track. I wish Killin’ It Girl would continue to grow in this way, as we could have been in store for a knockout climax. Instead, the song is content to spin its wheels in an admittedly pleasant, head-nodding fashion.
Going forward, BTS members would do well to use this tone as a template. Their music works best when perched halfway between the soul-bearing hip-hop they built their name on and more upbeat turn-off-your-brain pop bops. Killin’ It Girl strikes this balance, cool enough to avoid novelty but also a bit silly just to let you know it’s not taking itself too seriously. This is easily J-Hope’s strongest single of 2025 so far.

I love BTS but I thought Nick would definitely not like this song and rate it a C. I’m surprised!

It’s good but a bit unambitious. Hobi is one of the best dancers in the industry. If he wants to release a dance track like this, why not make it longer, add a dance break, add a spicy rap verse in korean, add a bridge, be a bit more extra about it. In any case, yeah this is his best single in 2025. I can see myself listening to it when I’m getting ready for going out, which is my standard for evaluating this type of song lol.

Oh Hobi just performed this song live at his concert and it was fire, so sexy and cool. Also Jungkook just had a surprise appearance at this concert, performing live-live only 48 hours after his discharge and after an almost 2 year long hiatus (after having a woman arrested for trying to break into his house like, last night). And all 7 members were there cheering in the crowd. What a time to be an army, I’m about to be insufferable unfortunately

I see j-hope performing an extended version of the song with a dance break next time he goes on tour or as a solo stage on their next group tour.

Wow, Hoseok!!
I agree with Joey. The production kinda reminds me of The Neptunes.

I love this. The beat is 70% of it, admittedly, but the hook does its job well, being “pop” but not so cheesy to put hip hop people totally off. Glorilla adds to the hip hop flavour. I agree, this is the stronger single he put out so far, and now I have high hopes in BTS return album.

I kinda dig this track! First j-hope track that I really like in a while. The repetitive chorus kinda works well and GloRilla killed her parts too.

I am not in the target demographic for this, so if this scratches your itch, fine. I do like the spoons on glasses synth sound.
