It’s been about a year since I last wrote about girl group VVUP, though I realize I mixed them up with the newly debuted VVS in my mind, assuming they were one and the same. That’s what your insistent acronyms do to us, K-pop! That’s also what forgettable music does, as I can’t remember a single past VVUP track despite covered each in detail. So, I guess we can consider Giddy Boy a fresh start of sorts.
The vast majority of Giddy Boy simply reheats current girl group tropes that have been run into the ground, but it has a few bright points. Verse two is underlined by an upbeat electro groove that should have become the track’s main calling card. Then, during the pre-choruses we’re greeted by a ceremonial synth loop that reminds me of 2 Unlimited’s cheesy 90’s dance anthems. Side note: wouldn’t it be awesome if a K-pop group covered 2 Unlimited??
Unfortunately, these engaging elements drown in a sea of repetitive “Come giddy, giddy, giddy, giddy, giddy boy.” (At one point, the group also proclaims “I’m the queen of this city, call me Litty,” which may become my new calling card). This chorus isn’t actually as annoying as it sounds on paper, but still spoils much of the goodwill other segments of Giddy Boy build. I wish the song would just pick one sonic element and excel at it. Instead, it’s in constant flux — and rather than add interest this simply makes it feel as if the rug is continually being pulled underfoot.

Thanks for reviewing Giddy Boy! VVUP actually released a song called ‘4 Life’ before this one, maybe you haven’t had the chance to hear it yet. Would love to hear your thoughts on it too if you’re up for a review. Thanks again!

If you are new to kpop and this sound, its a fine introduction.
For me, I’m like how my kids grade gummi bears – expectations and surprises. This meets expectations and has no surprises. The girls do well with the material. Rating is about right.

Extra points because it sounds like KPop, not western pop. 2nd verse slaps for sure.

Definitely started out promising. I can’t really bother with pointing out all the instances I liked, I’m not gonna come back to this
i definitely forgot about v up and thought this was vvs. I thought “when did they lose a member?”. Glad I read this to realize my mistake
