K-Pop Risers & Fallers: June 2025

Risers & FallersRather than contain my “Risers and Fallers” feature to a single post in June, I’m going to share a bite-sized version at the end of each month. This will let me account for more songs and make a nice lead-in to the monthly round-up post.

I anticipate most of these ratings adjustments will be negligible: a 0.5 shift here, a 0.25 shift there. But, it’s a fun way to keep track of how my feelings on songs have changed over time – as well as which tracks currently have momentum on my playlist.

And remember, just because a song is marked as a “faller” doesn’t mean I hate it! Falling from a “9” to an “8.75” is no shame. 9+ rated songs occupy a totally different playlist in my music library, so I’m pretty particular about what qualifies. It’s a high bar.

This month’s feature covers the period from May 20th to June 23rd.

  1. Damn, didn’t expect H2H and HITGS to rise for you (I expected the latter to fall ngl), lowkey sucks to see Fairy Mai fall as well, though at least it’s still a great rating lol (and I also rated it the same to be safe lol). Also, how’d you rate Lipstick (her collab/debut from this March)? It’s a banger right there and I already prefer it over Light Please.

But well, enough yapping, here are my risers:
    -Lemon Drop (ATEEZ): 8 (all 8s) to 8.5 (8, 8, 9, 9)
    -Outside (Enhypen): 6.75 (7, 7, 7, 6) to 7.25 (7, 7, 8, 7)
    -Style (Hearts2Hearts): 8.5 (8, 9, 8, 9) to 8.75 (8, 9, 9, 9)
    -Girls Will Be Girls (ITZY): 7.75 (7, 9, 8, 7) to 8.5 (8, 9, 9, 8) *biggest riser*
    -D.I.M.M (VVS): 6 (all 6s) to 6.5 (6, 7, 7, 6) (please don’t ask me on this…)
    -1&Only (XLOV): 7.75 (8, 8, 8, 7) to 8.25 (8, 8, 9, 8)

    Fallers:
    -Bad Desire (Enhypen): 7.75 (9, 7, 8, 7) to 6.25 (8, 4, 7, 6) *biggest faller*
    -Gross (HITGS): 6 (all 6) to 5.75 (6, 6, 6, 5)
    -Beep (izna): 7.75 (7, 8, 8, 8) to 7.5 (7, 8, 7, 8)
    -Itty Bitty (N.ssign): 8.75 (9, 9, 8, 9) to 8.5 (9, 8, 8, 9)

  2. The only song that grew on me that month was
    한희 (Hanhee) – ‘삐’
I thought it was very repetitive at first (it kinda is), but the chorus got stuck in my head. Now I can’t stop humming si si si si

  3. Surprised the fromis song wasn’t a faller for you, considering you mentioned you had kind of overrated it on a previous review. My money’s still on it for song of the month though (between that and Style) 🙂

  4. Risers:

-ENHYPEN – Bad Desire…this happens to me a lot with HYBE groups.  It pisses me off but I can’t help it.  I get over all the “what ifs”, and just enjoy the song.

-NOWZ – Fly to the Youth…it’s catchy and they sell it well.  It grew on my after a couple of performances.

-DOUBLEONE-On the Rocks w/ Kiss…probably my biggest riser

-OX:N – You – at first I was like “sure, it’s a nice song” but now I’m like “ah, so good”

    N.Ssign – Itty Bitty

BeBoys – Sorry I Love You

I just added both songs to the playlist knowing there was a chance I would discard them, but nope, they are both fun Kpop, they stayed put, and currently enjoying them.

    • 1. I might like this if I was 85 years old.
      2. Good, but definitely not as good as the last two singles.
      3. Decent, but there are dozens of recent pop girl songs I’d rather listen to.
      4. I prefer the more energetic, quirky stuff she’s released lately.
      5. The song doesn’t explode in the way I want a song like this to.
      6. Wait… this sounds a bit like T.M.Revolution in places. I’ll include it in tomorrow’s round-up. Thanks!

  6. Unrelated but i went down the infinite path for the first time this week and yeah, the chaser is insanely good (as are many others). In general i’ve recently started to go through 2nd gen/pre 2015 kpop since i never went back and listened to much older stuff at all despite being into kpop for the last 5 years and yes, i am ashamed it’s taken this long haha.

One negative of doing this is that it only further highlights how much better the music used to be compared to now..

In order of when i first heard them, so far it has to be everybody, janus & the chaser as my top 3 in this journey into pre 2015 kpop.

    • The instrumental riff does a lot of heavy lifting. It gives me that propulsive sound I’ve been missing while also recalling the wistfulness of some of my favorite girl groups in the past (Lovelyz, mostly). I’ve also come around to the melodies. They’re fun and quirky.
