Buried Treasure: NouerA – Myself

A K-pop act’s title track isn’t always the best song on their album, even if it’s the one most people will hear. Sometimes, b-sides deserve recognition too. In the singles-oriented world of K-pop, I want to spotlight some of these buried treasures and give them the props they deserve.

It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a buried treasure with the sentiment that “this should definitely have been the title track.” Overall, K-pop acts have been picking the right songs to promote in 2025 and honestly there just haven’t been that many extraordinary b-sides. NouerA are one of the few groups to spawn a “9” rated b-side in 2025 and they’ve done it again with Myself.

Full disclosure from me: a song with this sound is almost guaranteed to earn a “9” unless it does something really dumb. I just love this frothy, high energy house beat with a fully-sung, layered chorus. It’s a recipe that works incredibly well — especially during this time of year. I get that Myself might not adhere to NouerA’s concept as heavily as a title track should and I’ve actually come around to N (Number Of Cases)‘s jagged crunch quite a bit over the past few days, but if their agency is feeling generous and want to film a follow-up music video I can’t think of a better song to do it with. Myself is brisk, upbeat and incredibly fun. It confidently opens with its chorus, immediately recalling RIIZE’s Impossible from last year. The track could be more inventive in its execution, but like I said bias is strong with this genre and I just love hearing the energy. The song also scores bonus points for never dropping into some momentum-killing half-time trap breakdown.

  1. Man, house and summer is a wonderful combo and this song is a solid example. It does gives Impossible’s cousin and the bright, poppy energy stays consistent throughout. It’s a fun summer anthem this year so desperately needed

    8.75 (8, 9, 9, 9) just to be safe lol.

  2. Pretty nice and summery, though it reminds me more of Seventeen’s early songs of a similar soundscape (song like Shining Diamond and Healing), than Impossible.

Also, its looking like we have a contender for rookie of the year 👀

  3. heavy agree! it was the best opening for the album too, definitely, and i while i don’t find it title track material i also didn’t think number of cases was the right choice either lol. it’s such a fun track and i wish they had taken their time with it, there are times where it feels empty, and they just really could’ve stretched this out and still have a good track. as it is, i still love it.

i probably should’ve talked abt this in the number of cases post but! i think NouerA’s producers definitely have a tight grasp of what they want for their comebacks. their songs don’t feel formulaic (to me) but if i listened to the album with no knowledge of them i’d still know number of cases is meant to be the title. there’s just something in the production, idk. but i also want to thank them for improving because i felt like the previous album had a much bigger gap in quality between the title and bsides than this one.

    • also, my favorite track was make you move, even if they kept the last chorus the same instead of keeping the vibe of the bridge.

  4. NouerA’s début album has been the basically be one only album I’ve listened to non-stop – I’ve essentially become addicted…

(I might finish this year having only listened to NouerA albums 😭😭 both releases have me wrapped around their fingers 😩

  5. Really enjoy the bounce and energy of this. I’m reminded of The New Six’s Kick It 4 Now in how lovably and buoyantly it recaptures a specific ‘old school’ sound.

  6. Well hot damn, honey we have a hot one. House beat, set it off and Keep It Going! Its not the most complicated song, but it certainly does the trick. So much bright energy packed into this.
