Song Review: In A Minute – How We Do

New trio In A Minute made their debut earlier this year, but without a music video to promote their song I never wrote about them on the blog. Now, they’ve returned with their first comeback and their first video. How We Do has a refreshing funk pop sound that begs for further development.

At two and a half minutes, there’s not much space for How We Do to grow into much of anything, but its bright energy and upbeat rhythms are promising. The vocals are smooth and polished, drawing even more attention than the song itself. I wish the chorus exploded rather than pull back into an ultra-familiar bass-driven arrangement, but there’s enough here to make me keep an eye on where the group goes next.

  1. The southerner in me immediately thinks “oh bless their hearts”.

Actually its a really nice light funk sound. Keeps it momentum up too. This is one of those sub-3:00 songs that actually works. They pack a lot into the time allotted, and then end with a bow. If they wanted to, they could stretch it a bit with some instrumental break using just the beats and bass (dance, strut, ad lib some falsetto notes) then repeat the chorus.

I wish they chose another name, because the usual query returns 4Minute. Awesome group, “Crazy” is iconic. And then right after releasing it … disband. It was tragic.

  2. I read this as “4minute” and actually had the thought “wow the members look really different.” God help me, I got like 2.5 hours of sleep last night. Congratulations 4minute on your collective transition 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️
