Song Review: Hearts2Hearts – RUDE!

As SM Entertainment’s bid for fifth-gen girl group domination, Hearts2Hearts had a slow start but have charted progressively better with each comeback. New single RUDE! arrives with plenty of hype, not only because of the group’s potential but also because it finally breaks a late-winter hiatus for the industry.

So far, my favorite Hearts2Hearts track has been last summer’s Style. It packed the most melodic wallop and remembered to bring that most important aspect of K-pop: fun. Its follow-up Focus was also good, but relied too much on spoken-word hooks for my taste. RUDE! feels like a middleground between both songs. It’s sleek and fashionable — tasteful to the point of feeling generic within this era of subdued house sounds. However, its chorus recalls some of the bubbly appeal of Style. The melodies are still too flat for my taste, but at least they’re trying to poke through.

A silly spoken-word bridge injects some personality into the track, but overall RUDE! feels as if it could have been delivered by most of this generation’s girl groups. I’m beginning to hear a “signature sound” blossom for Hearts2Hearts, but I fear it isn’t specific enough to etch the group into SM’s pantheon of strong girl group history. RUDE! would sound great bumping in the background of a busy cafe or soundtracking a strutting model runway walk. It confidently delivers a specific, sanitized aesthetic. But judged strictly as a piece of pop music, its tricks are pretty limited and repetitive.

  1. I really want to love Hearts2Hearts but I can’t help seeing them as a cosmetic ad version of SNSD. It’s so clean and cute to the point of boredom. I do like the chorus and post chorus but everything else is bland especially compared to something like 404 (which is my fave so far this year).

Rookie bands should be playful and inventive not just sticking to their concept. Also those 3 last comebacks are way too similar, H2H, we need surprise!

  2. It sounds pretty good, but I don’t like the bratty concept, and I HATE that the producers resurrected the SNSD spoken word gimmick.

I’ll just stick to Pretty Please.

  3. Will be ever get a ‘GREAT’ track from these girls? It’s always something ‘serviceable’. I want some ambition, bombast, and bite to their music. They need their Paparazzi moment desperately if they actually want to make a mark on kpop.

  4. It’s like a watered-down Style but does the job decently. Wish it had more oomph to it, the girls need a strong standout like Style.

    8.25 (8, 8, 9, 8) for me.

  5. Damn I really hope H2H can develop their sound even further. I seriously see potential in these girls but we need more investment in them. Song needs more dynamics and a wayyyy bigger sound but the song is actually quite funny as well.

  6. It was obvious right away that this song is aiming for an addictive, repeat-listen track. It feels very close to “FOCUS” to me. If I kept listening to it over and over, there’s a good chance it would grow on me—but I don’t really feel enough charm here to make me want to put in that kind of effort. I’d give it around a 7/10.

  7. This def feels like an H2H song, so I would say they have solidified their identity at this point. While it is probably their weakest title yet, I don’t think it is bad. The bridge is nice to have, but I just don’t really enjoy it, which is a shame. Should have been something more melodic and been the peak moment of the song, preferably with a feeling of build bringing us to a peak of the song instead of feeling like a pit stop.

  8. HMM i agree that this will probably be a grower, not very impactful on first listen but the song has good structure. it just feels so sterile, even stella’s little monologue felt so…not fun lol

  9. I really like this. House beats are always a yes for me, and the hooks in this are addicting. The chorus melody especially is unexpected and fresh. I also really enjoy the members’ line delivery in the verses.

This isn’t as good as Style (it’ll probably grow though) but definitely tops Focus. 8.75 (9, 8, 9, 9) for me!

    • It rose and then fell back down, which is kind of strange! It’s really hard for a largely-spoken song to stick with me for a long time. I tend to get tired of them quickly unless there are other elements within the track that keep my attention.

      • a song I can think of that’s mostly sing-talking but really good is Pinocchio (danger) by f(x). and for a newer case, supernova by aespa. I’m not sure what your thoughts on those songs are, though

  10. I know I’m in the minority, but their first release, The Chase, is still my favorite song by them. If I’m honest, it might be my favorite K-pop song of ’25, along with NMIXX’s High Horse (which really grew on me belatedly, after the year had passed in fact).

    • I also prefer The Chase, which was one of my top ten songs of 2025. I think it had a bit more perspective than songs like this or Focus, which are fun and cute but lack something for me. It would be interesting to see them come back with a song like that.

  11. i feel like what this song rly needed was a killer post-chorus, smth more than just looping the instrumental and having a few wispy adlibs; the layered vocals and house beat are a rly effective foundation for me but it just needed smth more to make it stand out. the high note was nice too but that last chorus could’ve had more ad-libs!! the bridge is neutral for me tho, not rly infectious nor dispelling. their subdued-club signature sound is a promising route tho! (8,9,7,8 = 8)

  12. Rude is inoffensive enough for me to listen to but not think much of it, but please for the love of god can SM get some saturation in their mvs? They have some colour in here but the grading throughout their videos generally annoys me so much omg

  13. I like this more than FOCUS but not as much as STYLE. I really want to like H2H but they’re just not that compelling. RUDE is cute and catchy…another good/not great K-pop song 8/10 👶👶

  14. I’ve really liked their music so far. “Rude!” Is probably their most instant track for me. Focus had a little too much spoken word usage and style is annoying some days. “You can’t make me act right” has got to be their catchy moment yet. They really are fifth Gen SNSD. Unfortunately fifth gen also means less bite. I would love to see them get even sillier and be able to show off their individual tones more (Ian, jiwoo, juun,Ana in particular)

  15. I really wish this group did literally anything for me. I can’t remember any of their songs despite them coming up on my youtube playlists pretty frequently.

  16. I am slightly concerned with the song’s subject matter because this is [lyrically] a departure from their past eras.

Some fans would feel betrayed after a debut and two comebacks where the girls sung [at least] about attracting someone. In RUDE, the girls are calling out this ‘someone’ on their controlling behaviour. That’s how I interpret this comeback.

  17. I really wish that SM will let them be original, the song overall just feels like SM is trying to make H2H blend in with all the other “generic” releases that have came out this year (I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FIRE UNIQUE ONES PLEASE I LOVE 404 by kiiikiii, i’m specifically talking abt the same reused producing style), and also as previous people have said the talking gimmick and “bratty” style shouldn’t be so quickly applied to a group that has made their mark on their own style from “The Chase,” “Pretty Please,” “Style,” and “FOCUS.” Although it does have a catchy beat, I feel like the song overall was trying to appeal to trends and try to make the song trendy and social media popular instead of embracing H2H style. SM should really stop trying to make their new groups become blended into each other. But it still is a pretty good release for me, just wish SM can stop trying to shape H2H for social media’s appeal.
