Song Review: HYO – MOVEURBODY

SNSD’s Hyoyeon continues her run as a DJ/solo artist with new single MOVEURBODY. This song has been available for about a month now, but a music video premiered today so I thought I’d give it a little write-up. After all, HYO has been responsible for some bangers in the past.

Throughout her solo career, HYO has dabbled in a variety of dance sounds. Abrasive club beats are making their way back into K-pop, so it makes sense that MOVEURBODY would go big and bold with its production. The club is certainly clubbing here as the percussion becomes more and more intense. Sadly (for me) this is yet another example of the “talking over a club beat” approach so beloved by K-pop artists at the moment. This rarely leaves room for compelling hooks, and without the breakneck energy of its production, MOVEURBODY isn’t much of a song at all. “Move your feet, feet, feet. Feel the beat, beat, beat.” Blah, blah, blah and a so on and so forth. I already have so much great dance music in my own collection. There’s no reason I’d turn to something like this.

  1. Sounds like it’ll make a fun track to dance to in a club. Love the percussions but that’s pretty much it. She’s had better dance tracks in the past though (Punk Right Now, Badster, Dessert, Yes etc.)

    7 (6, 8, 7, 7) for me

  2. Heard this this morning on Spotify and thought it was pretty bad, certainly not what I’m looking for in K-pop, unfamiliar with the artist. Now I’m shocked to learn now it’s from SM.

  3. She’s had a pretty good singles streak since Picture, a shame it’s been broken. Hopefully the next one will be better, but this taking a month to get an MV doesn’t fill me with confidence that SM is looking to spend money on my girl
