LE SSERAFIM: A Career In Song Ratings

There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

  1. Damn, I thought you were gonna include the collab with Katseye and ILLIT 😭 it prolly would have tanked their average to a 7.50 or so then

But man, I feel like after Unforgiven, they’ve highkey lost their sonic identity. They really could have benefitted from the sleek, bombastic yet minimalistic sound from 2022. I still hold b-sides like The Great Mermaid, No Celestial and No Return on a high pedestal

    • I never liked Unforgiven, but yet I rate Eve, Psyche & the Bluebeard’s wife as their best song, or at least my favorite. And Perfect Night was a blast too. Oh, and 1-800-hot-n-fun was another killer b-side. They’re a group that’s so inconsistent – and yet, so interesting to me – because out of that inconsistency, some really original gems emerge.

  2. in their rookie years, i would’ve said my fav tracks from them was fearless and epbw. i loved the minimalist sound, but they’ve become toothless to me now. antifragile and spaghetti rose to the top instead.

  3. My rating for le sserafim songs are quite similar to Nick. This is actually a bit interesting that their ‘slump phases’ coincides with the hate train era and their ‘imperial phases’ happened post-hate train.

However, the song receptions are the opposite as most kpop fans like their ‘slump phase’ songs more than their ‘imperial phase’ songs. I guess the newer kpop fans like those experimental sounds more than classics
