i-dle have a history of releasing summer songs, bending the season to their will for material that fits within their sonic wheelhouse. They’re no doubt hoping another summer release will reverse their chart fortunes and see them sitting comfortably in the top ten again. For that to happen, they’ll need something much more striking than Gimme Dat Love.
This is a minimalist summer dance track with barely-there percussion and a subtle whistle hook repeating in the background. It gives the vibe of a sultry back room on a hot summer night, hushed enough not to disturb the neighbors but very much its own vibe. For me, a song this reserved needs a very special series of melodies to maintain interest. Sadly, Gimme Dat Love isn’t too concerned with melody.
At its core, the track is largely spoken. A repetitive chorus attempts to trace the lines of the beat but feels a bit labored with too many syllables vying for their spot. I much prefer the moments Gimme Dat Love pushes outside its constraints. Strings add a nice touch of drama during the pre-chorus, giving the track a more cinematic vibe that it could have capitalized upon further. Apart from that, this feels like a mid-tier attempt at a laidback summer jam. It’s not bad, but doesn’t bring any new ideas to the table.

Watching the MV feels like a lesbian thirst trap or the members coming out as lesbian moment kind of thing…. Well aside from the dubious video, the song itself just feel very MID coming from a group that thrived on experimental side during their rookie years. The beat is not exciting, the rap parts just straight robbed out the melody, and the hook is borderline cringy. Only Minnie parts kept the song a bit alive. Did i-dle left their GAME along with the letter G during their rebranding or it is their “washed-out” period similar to “ITZY post-sneaker era” so to speak. Deeply disappointed by the album too, no B-sides gem to be found.

It is a surprisingly normal song for idle. I think the production struck the wrong tone – perhaps it could have leaned more EDM – Dream pop with softer sultrier airier tones.
The chorus is not too many syllables in principle, it is that (ok I know this is going to sound odd) its that they are moving their tongues too much and enunciated too much vowel. This is perhaps a bit odd as most of them are native-Korean speakers whose L and R are the same consonant and hold their tongue between the two – versus myself as a native-English speaker where there are two distinct positions for L versus R. (Also why Koreans can roll their R’s in Spanish rather well, and I cannot hardly at all.)
Anyway, they needed a lighter touch on the luh luh luh luh’s. They made it sound a chore when it could have been softer and sultry and alluring.

The prechorus had such a good buildup and then the chorus came and it was just … Nothing. Disappointing anti drop. So then I was like, they must bring everything back in an explosive post chorus. But they DIDN’T. I got PISSED. Other than that it’s a fine song. I like the prechorus a lot. I like the other tracks better, though.

I actually kind of liked this song, especially the Latin aspects of it. It didn’t really feel cringe to me like their other songs (“Nxde” and “Tomboy”). I don’t really mind the repetitive chorus, and the anti-drop was a bit weird on first listen, but I got used to it the second listen. So, I’ll give this song about an 8.25/10.

Not bad, but not remarkable either. The vibe is kinda similar to Smart, and I’m sick of that song. Crow is much better. And the MV, I can only say that they clearly know who their target audience are.

Not the Tyla nachos.. tbh I’ve never gravitated to their music. Constantly changing sounds every album and the heavy-handedness of each genre/concept they do has always felt a little.. tacky? Like watching a theater show, which purposely over-exaggerates and imitates. There’s something almost inauthentic and performative about their title songs. Of course, you can say every kpop group does the same thing but idk. I’ve always felt this way towards them.
Chorus is boring. I think it sounds too “raw” for this vibe so adding vocal effects would’ve been better. Having actual lyrics would’ve been significantly better.

Once again a gimmick over the content. The overall pre-hype of all the teaser is always be very propulsive and promising, but the content itself is always disappointing… And how come i-dle is so late into the afro beat trend that has been overly used for the past few years in k-pop?
A flat 6.5 for me.

i-dle lost their “nose for pop”, I am not blaming Soyeon, I know she didn’t get inloved in the production team of title, but this song just so boring, after hearing the non-stoping “lah lah lah” i just skip it, how can this be called a chorus.
